    As a **Surgical Assistant** , you will play a vital role in supporting surgical procedures and patient care for both operable and non-operable conditions. Working in alignment with the Mission, Vision, and Values of Saint Joseph Health System (SJHS), you will assist in the operating room and clinic, ensuring a safe, efficient, and compassionate experience for every patient. You will collaborate closely with physicians and the clinic medical home team to deliver high-quality care, maintain accurate documentation, and uphold safety standards.

     

    This role requires strong clinical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to teamwork. You will be responsible for preparing surgical rooms, assisting during procedures, conducting patient assessments, scheduling diagnostic tests, and ensuring compliance with safety and infection control protocols. Your ability to communicate effectively and work with patients of all ages is essential.

    What you will do:

    + Assistwith surgical procedures and room setup in both clinic and operating room settings

    + Conduct initial patient assessments, take vitals, and review medical history

    + Schedule diagnostic tests and obtain prior authorizations

    + Maintain and clean surgical instruments and supplies

    + Document patient care and collaborate with the clinic medical home team

    What you will need:

    + High School diploma or equivalent

    + Completion of an accredited Surgical Assisting or Physician Assistant program

    + Certification in Surgical Assisting or evidence of employment in the field prior to July 1, 2009

    + BLS certification (upon hire or within 60 days)

    + 2 years of operating room experience preferred

    + Proficiencyin electronic medical records and basic computer systems
