POSITION DETAILS
The Office of Faculty Affairs within the Office of Academic Affairs at The City University of New York (CUNY), partners with faculty and administrators across the University to foster an environment where faculty are supported, recognized and empowered, championing their vital contributions to student success, the University community, and their academic disciplines.
Located at the Central Office, the Office of Faculty Affairs aligns faculty development initiatives with the University’s strategic priorities, focusing on teaching excellence, academic leadership, and student success. The department provides guidance and leadership for cross-campus collaborations and programs that enhance faculty engagement, including professional development opportunities, teaching conferences, the Distinguished Professor nomination process, and the selection and management of faculty fellows.
Reporting to the University Dean of Faculty Affairs, the University Director of Faculty Affairs provides strategic leadership in advancing a university-wide vision for faculty development that aligns with CUNY's mission and strategic plan. The University Director leads key programs and initiatives, including the CUNY Innovative Teaching Academy (CITA), while driving data-informed planning, assessment, and innovation to strengthen teaching excellence and faculty success.
In addition to the CUNY Title Overview information, other key duties include, but will not be limited to the following:
+ Provides strategic leadership in the development, coordination, and assessment of university-wide faculty professional development initiatives that align with CUNY’s mission, strategic priorities, and institutional goals.
+ Oversee administration of the COACHE (Collaborative on Academic Careers in Higher Education) Faculty Job Satisfaction Survey and use findings to inform targeted professional development opportunities and system-wide planning.
+ Utilizes data and educational technology to improve program design, strengthen assessment efforts, and enhance the visibility and effectiveness of Faculty Affairs initiatives.
+ Leads and advances the work of the CUNY Innovative Teaching Academy (CITA), developing programming that fosters pedagogical innovation and amplifies the work of campus Centers for Teaching and Learning (CTLs).
+ Develop and manage grant proposals and external partnerships to expand resources that support faculty excellence and professional growth.
+ Prepare high-level reports, presentations, and communications that highlight faculty achievements and promote CUNY’s leadership in teaching, learning, and faculty success.
+ Serve as a thought partner on educational leadership and innovation, integrating emerging technologies and evidence-based practices into faculty development programs.
+ Performs related duties as assigned.
NOTES:
-Until further notice, this position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule.
-Occasional evening or weekend work may be required for faculty development events.
QUALIFICATIONS
MINIMUM
Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience required.
PREFERRED
+ Doctoral degree in higher education leadership/policy or a closely related field.
+ Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in academic affairs and assessment at the college, university, or system level.
+ Strong strategic planning, assessment, and project management skills, with the ability to align initiatives to institutional goals and priorities.
+ Proven ability to collect, analyze, and apply data to guide decision-making and support continuous improvement of programs.
+ Advanced technical acumen, including familiarity with digital learning management platforms, data dashboards, and educational technology tools that enhance teaching and faculty engagement.
+ Demonstrated success in designing and leading innovative, large-scale professional development programs for faculty that strengthen teaching, learning, and student success.
+ Demonstrated engagement in national higher education networks, organizations, or initiatives, with the ability to bring a broad, informed perspective on emerging trends and best practices in higher education.
+ Excellent communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across diverse campuses and professional roles.
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Directs selected University-wide academic programs and operations under executive oversight.
- Develops and implements program proposals and strategic plans
- Administers all curricular, administrative, and fiscal aspects of programs and oversees support efforts
- Cultivates and maintains strategic partnerships with external parties and collaborates with faculty, administrators and staff across the University to achieve program goals
- Monitors program activities; evaluates and reports on effectiveness and outcomes
- May manage program-related and support staff
- Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
The salary range is **$131,440 to $141,643** , commensurate with credentials, education, and experience.
CUNY is in the process of implementing salary schedule increases. Once implemented, salaries of eligible employees will be adjusted to 3.5% effective 9/1/26, in accordance with the
terms of the PSC-CUNY collective bargaining agreement.
