Position Summary
The Central Sterile Processing Technician is responsible for the decontamination, cleaning, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies. This role supports patient safety and surgical efficiency by ensuring all materials are processed according to infection control standards and regulatory guidelines.
Key Responsibilities
+ Operate sterilization equipment (e.g., autoclaves, gas plasma) and verify cycle parameters.
+ Document sterilization records in compliance with AORN, JCAHO, OSHA, and AAMI standards.
+ Perform biological and chemical testing to ensure proper sterilization.
+ Assemble and wrap instrument trays and kits using standardized content lists.
+ Clean and reassemble patient care equipment; report and stage non-functional items.
+ Maintain crash carts, ensuring completeness and expiration compliance.
+ Use instrument tracking systems to manage workflow and inventory.
+ Support Operating Room setup and respond to emergency supply requests.
+ Train and orient new staff using competency checklists.
+ Collaborate with OR Service Coordinators to gain expertise in specialized instrumentation.
+ Maintain clean and organized workspaces to meet safety and infection control standards.
+ Uphold Trinity Health’s mission, values, and ethical standards.
+ Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education & Experience:
+ Completion of a Central Sterile Processing program OR
+ Minimum 1 year of Central Sterile Processing experience OR
+ At least 6 months as a Central Sterile Processing Assistant
Certification:
+ Certification through IAHCSMM or CSPBD preferred
Skills & Abilities:
+ Knowledge of aseptic techniques and sterilization procedures
+ Ability to lift/move up to 30 lbs frequently
+ Proficiency with computerized equipment and tracking systems
+ Strong communication and customer service skills
