             Employment Type: Full time Shift: Description: The Nursing Support (NS) colleague (uncertified, certified, unlicensed, or licensed) provides safe, quality health care services & / or assistance to patients under the supervision & direction of a registered nurse or other designated health care professional in accordance with level of experience, education, policies & procedures. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS + Assists with patient’s physical, psychosocial, environmental, spiritual, social and education needs. + Supports a plan of care throughout patient’s stay. Provide input/data on changes in the patient’s condition to the professional nurse. + Records patient information in the electronic/paper medical record in an accurate/timely manner. + Works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary team in the provision of patient care to achieve desired patient care outcomes. + Recognizes personal learning and development needs. Participates in developing their yearly performance goals. Creates a plan for professional/personal growth. + Provides for patient comfort, safety, and protects dignity, privacy and confidentiality. + Responsible for maintaining and participating in departmental/organizational meetings, in-services and educational opportunities. + Serves as a steward for the hospital’s human and material resources. Meets productivity expectations of unit/department as defined by unit manager. Utilizes and maintains appropriate supplies in department. Support staffing needs for patient care. + Adapts positively to the ever-changing health care environment by supporting technology and process changes. Willing to learn new things, is open to change and maintain a calm, positive manner under stressful conditions. + Performs technical skills as delegated. Demonstrates proficiency in the use of equipment. + Provides competent patient care to the above indicated patient populations by obtaining and appropriately interpreting data, making appropriate decisions based on demonstrated knowledge of age-specific growth and development, and appropriately adapting procedures and treatments. + Supports and abides by all medical center, departmental, and safety policies and procedures. Proactively identifies safety concerns surrounding the work environment. + Performs other responsibilities as requested by Director, CNM, CL, Charge Nurse, Circulating Nurse or Surgical Tech. Education Candidates must meet **one** of the following: + Completed a formal Nurse Aide course/training (verified by transcript or original certificate). **OR** + Currently enrolled in: + Scrub Technologist program **OR** + A.D.N. or B.S.N. nursing program **and** have completed: + First semester of A.D.N. program **OR** + First year of nursing courses in B.S.N. program **OR** + Graduate of an A.D.N., Diploma, B.S.N., or LPN program. Skills & Competencies + Flexible schedule availability. + Basic computer skills. + Ability to meet “on-call” requirements. + Able to understand and follow directions. + **Basic Life Support (BLS)** certification (American Heart Association or American Red Cross, live class only) required **before employment or within 30 days of hire** ; must maintain current status. Mandatory Certifications (within 6 months of hire, maintain current status): + Mandatory Reporting: Child & Dependent Adult Abuse (renew every 5 years) + Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) + Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) + Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) + MANDT Training + Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC) Ministry/Facility Information: **MercyOne North Iowa** Medical Center provides expert health care to 15 counties.
