    Description:

    Weekend Baylor CS Instrument Tech

    The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician is responsibility for the cleaning, sterilization, distribution, and recording of patient reusable supplies and equipment and the decontamination and assembly of instruments for the OR and throughout the Hospital and Mercy Family clinics. The Sterile Processing Instrument Technician is responsible for the OR case carts being properly setup and assures that all the instruments necessary to do the procedure are on the cart, ready for surgical use. The Sterile Processing Instrument Tech is responsible under the direction of a specific OR clinical leader in a specific area for instrument inventory, ordering, vendor and repair of instruments.

     

    Shift is for BAYLOR Shift

    7AM-7:30 PM

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

    + Cooperates and communicates with and accepts direction from the Director of Sterile Processing, Surgical Services, Sterile Processing supervisor and OR clinical leaders as it relates to the preparation and distribution of surgery supplies and case cart setups on a daily basis.

    + Communicates with and performs duties following Mercyone – North Iowa Medical Center Excellence Standards of Behavior.

    + Maintains an accurate inventory of supplies in work areas and assumes the responsibility for decontamination, distribution, and recording of patient reusable supplies and equipment.

    + Responsible for the OR case carts being properly setup and assures that all the instruments necessary to do that particular case are on the cart and ready for surgical use.

    + Responsible for the cleaning, wrapping, assembling and sterilization of all hospital and Mercy Clinic instruments and equipment.

    + Uses proper technique and procedure for the handling and disposition of supplies and instruments.

    + responds promptly to emergencies that may occur in the hospital and the Mercy Clinics.

    + Acts as a resource for missing or misplaced instruments needed by the OR for a surgical case in process.

    + Knowledgeable of Blue Bin usage in obtaining supplies for case cart preparation and patient supplies.

    + Accepts responsibility to obtain doctor’s preference cards for preparing OR case carts from the SurgiServer computer system.

    + Checks all patient equipment for proper functioning.

    + Responsible for accurately maintaining instrument check-off papers.

    + Provides in-services on new instruments and/or changes in instrument set.

    + Actively participates in departmental CQI initiatives improvement.

    + Supports and abides by all medical center, departmental, and safety policies and procedures. Proactively identifies safety concerns surrounding the work environment.

    Minimum Requirements:

    + Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

    + Preferred CRCST (Certified Registered Central Supply Tech) Certificate after the 2nd year of employment

    + Preferred CST (Certified Surgical Tech) Certificate, will be accepted.
