Brief Position Overview
The Office of Career, Internship & Student Employment Services seeks to support and advantage students through personalized career coaching. We aid students in generating and maintaining confidence and motivation to learn and engage. As part of Career Services, Career Coaches provide opportunities for students to evaluate their interests and values as they pursue meaningful and fulfilling work. Our coaches ensure students acquire the tools, resources, and counsel to develop skills and strategies to aid in defining their professional goals and navigating the challenges and opportunities of the 21st century.

Duties and Responsibilities
Career Education Coach – Key Responsibilities
+ Guide students in exploring career interests, aspirations, and professional development through individual and group coaching, workshops, and classroom instruction.
+ Deliver career development curriculum and support the development of essential skills including resume writing, interviewing, job/internship search strategies, and building a professional brand.
+ Help students develop Durable Skills and Career Competencies to thrive at MSU and beyond by decoding complex career-related information and tactics.
+ Maintain service excellence by tracking student progress, recording detailed client notes, and using data to inform and improve coaching practices.
Student Success Advisor-Specific Duties:
+ Conducting one-on-one and group appointments with students, reviewing appropriate learning strategies for students for Student Success via referrals through the Navigate/Early Alert program, Residence Life, MSU 101, CARE team, as well as self referral by students who know they need help with pursuing their degree.
+ Assist students decode important information, ideas and tactics to help students develop the skills necessary to receive the full benefit of their education.
+ Provides student-facing assistance and education on learning management via workshops, strategy clinics, hosting classroom lectures, assisting with the US 103 Learning Strategies course, and group appointments.
Serves all students and is vital to ensuring learning management instruction and support to enhance retention and degree completion in a variety of settings.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
1. Bachelor’s degree in relevant field, or a combination of education and/or experience from which comparable skills are acquired.
2. Experience in student advising at the post-secondary level or experience with career/professional coaching.
3. Demonstrated experience in program delivery and with a high degree of professionalism.
4. Demonstrated technical competence using personal computers and various software such as word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software & relational databases with a willingness to learn additional department and MSU specific software and programs.
5. Demonstrated experience working in a fast-paced office setting.
6. Ability to troubleshoot problems and have candid conversations.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
1. Master’s Degree, or combination of education and/or applicable experience equivalent to a master’s degree.
2. Experience facilitating and instructing small group workshops and classes.
3. Knowledge of trends in higher education, Human Resources, the economy and/or workforce development trends.
4. Demonstrated experience with teaching and learning pedagogy.
5. Experience facilitating and instructing small group workshops and classes.
6. Possess knowledge of the higher education system and related services.

Position Special Requirements/Additional Information
Maintain a fixed weekly schedule with flexibility to occasionally host events and interact with students during evenings and weekends.
