    The Department of Interventional Cardiology/Electrophysiology within the Division of Cardiology at UVA Health’s Heart and Vascular Center is dedicated to enhancing care models that increase access, improve health outcomes, and support patients and families throughout Central Virginia. Our mission is to deliver comprehensive, patient-centered care for those who undergo interventional cardiology/Electrophysiology procedures within a collaborative, team-based environment. Our interprofessional team includes cardiologists, advanced practice providers, nurses, and allied health professionals who share a deep commitment to health equity, innovation, education, and quality improvement.

     

    UVA Health is seeking a dedicated Advanced Practice Provider (APP) specialized in Interventional Cardiology/Electrophysiology to join our esteemed team. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside leading interventional cardiologists and electrophysiologists in a dynamic care team, providing comprehensive care to patients undergoing procedures like diagnostic cardiac catheterizations, percutaneous coronary and peripheral interventions, endocardial ablations, transvenous, leadless, subcutaneous and extravascular pacemakers and defibrillators, and left atrial appendage occlusive device implants. APP is also required to perform direct current cardioversions. UVA participates in research related to cutting edge advanced technologies in the field of interventional cardiology and electrophysiology and APPs play an integral role in the management of these patients.

    Schedule and Work Environment

    •Full-time, clinical role based primarily in UVA’s interventional and electrophysiology procedural area.

    •Day shifts, four 10-hour shifts scheduled Monday through Saturday.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    • Previous APP experience in cardiology preferred

    • Clinical experience with pre- and post-procedure management of patients undergoing interventional cardiology and electrophysiology procedures preferred

    Clinical

    + Provide independent and collaborative care to patients undergoing interventional cardiac procedures

    + Perform comprehensive histories, physical examinations, diagnostic evaluations, and ongoing management of patients with cardiovascular disease.

    + Support the evaluation and care coordination of patients undergoing cardiology interventions (e.g., diagnostic cardiac catheterizations, percutaneous coronary and peripheral interventions, endocardial ablations, transvenous, leadless, subcutaneous and extravascular pacemakers and defibrillators, Left atrial appendage occlusive device implant)

    + Perform direct current cardioversion

    + Participate in pre-procedural screening, education, and post-procedural follow-up care.

    + Manage common pre- and post-procedure complications like hypertension, hypotension, bleeding, angina, acute myocardial infarction, heart failure, arrhythmias and respiratory distress

    + Collaborate with interventional cardiology/electrophysiology, cardiac surgery, imaging, and other subspecialty teams to ensure coordinated, high-quality care.

    + Provide patient and family education regarding disease processes, treatment options, and procedural care.

    + Coordinate diagnostic testing, referrals, and follow-up care.

    + Ensures accurate, timely documentation in the electronic medical record and adherence to UVA Health documentation and compliance standards.

    + Participate in multidisciplinary meetings, case conferences, and program development initiatives.

    + Contribute to quality improvement efforts, research, and/or educational outreach within the department of interventional cardiology/electrophysiology

    + Contributes to ongoing efforts to enhance care models that increase access and improve outcomes

    + Participates in divisional and departmental quality improvement, patient safety, and strategic planning initiatives.

    + Provides mentorship and education to students, and new staff members.

    + Advocates for access to health care through community partnerships, outreach, and systems-based improvement initiatives.

    Professional

    + Demonstrates professionalism through effective communication, teamwork, and commitment to UVA Health’s mission and values.

    + Participates in interprofessional collaboration with physicians, nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists, care coordinators, social workers and learners to ensure seamless, team-based care.

    + Engages in continuous professional development and educational activities, including teaching and mentoring opportunities within the Division.

    + Promotes health equity, inclusion, and family-centered approaches in all aspects of care delivery.

    Administration

    + Partners with APP and department leadership to optimize patient flow, operational efficiency, and access to care.

    + Supports implementation of enhanced care delivery models designed to improve patient health outcomes and satisfaction.

    + Participates in performance improvement, data reporting, and outcomes tracking for quality metrics.

    MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

    Education: Graduate of an accredited graduate school of nursing or physician assistant program with a master’s degree.

     

    Experience: Department and unit specific.

     

    Licensure: License or license eligible as an Advance Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner, Physician Associate, Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist, and Certified Nurse Midwife) as set forth by the state of Virginia. If Nurse Practitioner, license to Practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia is required. Must demonstrate and maintain all credentialing and licensing requirements of UVA Health System, the Virginia Board of Medicine or the Virginia Board of Nursing, and appropriate certifying bodies. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required. Current PALS/NRP, as required, specific to position. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) as required, specific to position.

     

    Background checks and pre-employment health screenings** will be conducted on all new hires prior to employment. All safety-sensitive positions with direct patient interaction also require a **drug screen.

    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    Job requires standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping, reaching (overhead, extensive, and repetitive); Repetitive motion: computer keyboard. Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 50 - 100lbs. May be exposed to noise, radiation, radioactive materials, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

     

    Position Compensation Range: $96,907.20 - $155,043.20 Annual
