French Consulting is seeking a Dental Assistant to deliver expert dental care to incarcerated patients at Federal Correctional Institution Loretto. You’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring safe, high-quality dental care. Your efforts will directly contribute to positive patient outcomes, supporting inmates’ health and well-being.
What You’ll Do
Patient Dental Care
+ Retrieve patients' records and escorts patients to proper dental specialty section; seats and prepares patient for attending Dental Officer; assists Dental Officer by preparing dental instruments, essential materials, drugs and medications; passes instruments, retracts tissues, irrigates oral cavity, and operates aspirator; observes patients' responses, and assists patient for dismissal from Dental clinic; gives instructions for subsequent dental appointments; makes necessary entries on dental treatment records; prepares dental treatment room for next patient; assists in the treatment of emergency cases.
+ Maintains dental equipment; cleans, sharpens, and sterilizes instruments; performs daily inspection of equipment, and makes minor repairs; reports defective equipment, or utilizes corrective action.
+ You’ll perform routine oral prophylaxis of the clinical crowns of teeth; uses dental hand instruments, mechanical instruments (including ultrasonic), oral hygiene aids and prophylaxis paste to provide necessary oral prophylactic services; prepares entries for patient's records; selects and applies medication in proper portion and anticariogenic agents to surfaces of teeth; applies medication prescribed by a dental officer to gingiva to promote healing.
+ You’ll fabricate and repair dental prosthesis and appliances under supervision; and denture prosthesis and removable partial prosthesis, using acrylic resins and porcelain.
+ You will take radiographs of patients using standard dental radiographic, panelipse, cephalometric, and transcranial equipment; obtains diagnostic quality periapical, occlusal, lateral, jaw, TMJ, and panographic radiographs; correctly positions patient and film and determines level of radiation intensity to minimize radiation exposure of patients;
+ You will need a complete working knowledge of a Digital Radiology Dental System (Schick Digital Panorex and Bitewing System), and can electronically process films and store these films in an electronic format.
+ You’ll be responsible for maintaining proper infection control procedures in radiographic techniques and sterilizes contaminated biological waste of dental clinic several times a day (Statum Autoclave System), including Attest Biological Indicator working knowledge and documentation of spore test results;
+ Expanded duties may include placing and finishing dental restorations, including bases and liners. Making primary impressions and pouring of the casts. Tooth shade selection for composite restorations and dentures.

+ Collaborate effectively with healthcare team members, and patients to enhance care and resolve concerns.
+ Participate in staff development programs, cross-training initiatives, and performance improvement activities.
Professional Development & Documentation
+ Maintain accurate, timely, and concise patient records, both manual and electronic.
+ Engage in self-directed learning, continuing education, and competency validation.
+ Contribute to the orientation, training, and evaluation of newly assigned personnel.
+ Comply with legal, regulatory, and FCI-specific policies in all aspects of patient care.

Qualifications
+ Successful completion of one of the following:
+ Formal training as a Dental Assistant, either at an accredited school or from a licensed dentist through on the job training, or commensurate documented experience. Training must have included dental radiology and radiology safety. Must possess current state licensure in Pennsylvania.
+ Demonstrated dental clinical experience.
+ The ability to collect and track data and enter into word processor, and track scheduling of patient care utilizing an Electronic Medical Record format (local training on the Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR) will be providing by FCI Loretto healthcare staff.)
+ Knowledge and experience in maintaining patient medical records and confidentiality.
+ Knowledge and experience in maintaining patient medical records and confidentiality.
+ Experience in clinical correctional setting (preferred).
+ Meet all health screening and vaccination requirements.
+ US citizen with the ability to complete FCI credentialing requirements.
+ Residency Requirement: For three of the five years must have either:
+ Resided in the United States (U.S.);
+ Worked for the U.S. overseas in a Federal or military capacity; or
+ Been a dependent of a Federal or military. employee serving overseas.
