    Reporting to the Associate University Librarian for Academic Services, the Social Sciences Librarian proactively builds relationships and supports student and faculty research in the social sciences, with an emphasis on economics, philosophy, religion, the Allbritton Center for the Study of Public Life, and the Center for Prison Education.

     

    The Social Sciences Librarian will engage and inform the community about tools and emerging trends related to information creation and utilization. Additionally, the position participates in collection assessment and development. This position is part of a collaborative, team-based environment and will also play an integral role in the library’s orientation and engagement programs. They will also play an important role in evaluating emerging technologies and user interfaces, sharing knowledge with colleagues. This position will bring forth ideas and energy that maintain the library’s vibrancy and importance to the intellectual and cultural life at Wesleyan.

    Responsibilities include:

    + Proactively maintain campus and professional connections and collaborations that will facilitate the design and implementation of research services to support the social sciences, including academic departments, the Allbritton Center for the Study of Public Life and the Center for Prison Education.

    + Design, provide, and assess multi-modal instruction on resources, concepts, and tools related to social science research.

    + Promote and provide reference and in-depth research support.

    + Evaluate new technologies and tools used for information discovery and management, sharing knowledge with colleagues.

    + Work with library colleagues to design and deliver effective orientation and outreach programs that connect a diverse population with library spaces and services.

    + Support the evolution and growth of analog and digital collections to meet the needs of faculty and students and represent the diversity of contributors in the field.

    + Serve on library committees and represent the library on campus committees.

    + Maintain current knowledge of trends and changes in scholarly information and academic public services.

    + Perform additional duties as assigned.

    Minimum Qualifications:

    + Graduate degree in library science, information science, or a related field, and at least two years of experience supporting research, instruction, or information services; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Graduate student experience will be considered.

    + Demonstrated experience providing research, instruction, or user services in an academic, comparable library, or educational setting.

    + Knowledge of social science research methods, including data discovery.

    + Proven ability to communicate and collaborate effectively in a diverse environment and engage respectfully with individuals from varied backgrounds.

    + Demonstrated ability to learn, test, implement, and teach new technologies and tools.

    + Ability to thrive in individual and collaborative work environments.

    + Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends.

    Preferred Qualifications:

    + Experience supporting the integration of research and information literacy into courses or learning experiences and assisting undergraduate students with research projects.

    + Experience providing business and economics research support.

    + Demonstrated project planning experience, including the ability to manage and prioritize projects.
