Job Title: Construction Segment Inspector
Job Description
We are seeking 15 dedicated Construction Inspectors to support a major expansion project in Virginia Beach. This role involves working with an employee-owned engineering, consulting, and construction firm on the transformative Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel Expansion Project. The project aims to widen the existing four-lane segments along nearly ten miles of the I-64 corridor in Norfolk and Hampton, including the construction of new twin tunnels across the harbor. This expansion is designed to increase capacity, reduce congestion, and enhance travel time reliability.
Responsibilities
+ Perform quality control of VDOT Roadway construction, including field soils, concrete, asphalt, and aggregate testing, ensuring contract compliance under the supervision of a Construction Quality Control Inspector or Manager.
+ Conduct materials testing such as nuclear gauge soil and aggregate density.
+ Review placement of and perform materials tests on concrete deliveries in accordance with VDOT and ACI standards.
+ Verify construction of Roadway and Highway materials and placement compliance with drawings, VDOT specifications, special provisions, and contract documents.
+ Monitor and observe limited contractual fieldwork, including excavations, storm drain piping installation, drainage facilities, and concrete placement under supervision.
+ Advise inspector supervisors and contractor supervisors/foremen of non-conforming field tests.
+ Take field measurements of materials placed/tested and record daily production and test results.
+ Complete daily reports with attached VDOT materials testing forms.
+ Receive materials delivery tickets for compliance and submission to contractors.
+ Communicate effectively with clients, contractors, and staff, resolving problems efficiently.
+ Maintain all required certifications and participate in training courses as needed.
Essential Skills
+ Experience in transportation, soils testing, construction, aggregate testing, and asphalt.
+ Construction inspection and roadway construction knowledge.
+ Active ACI Certification in relevant fields such as Soils and Aggregate, Concrete, Erosion and Sediment.
+ 0-2+ years of relevant experience.
+ Ability to work outdoors and in various weather conditions.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Associates or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related field preferred.
+ Experience working night shifts as needed, with prior notice provided.
+ Reliable and dependable with strong report-filling skills.
Work Environment
This position requires working outdoors on-site at the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel or Elbow Road in Virginia Beach. The role involves fieldwork in diverse weather conditions. Inspectors must adhere to safety standards and dress appropriately for outdoor construction environments. A company vehicle and gas card are provided, and there are opportunities for significant overtime. Night shift work may be required, with additional compensation provided.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr.
