    Job Description

    We are seeking 15 Construction Inspectors to join a dynamic team supporting the Expansion Project and the new Elbow Road project in Virginia Beach. This role is crucial in aiding one of the largest infrastructure projects in the country, the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel Expansion, which aims to widen the current four-lane segments along nearly ten miles of the I-64 corridor in Norfolk and Hampton, featuring new twin tunnels across the harbor. This transformative undertaking will increase capacity, ease major congestion, and enhance travel time reliability.

    Responsibilities

    + Perform quality control of VDOT Roadway and construction for field soils, concrete, asphalt, and aggregate testing of contractors' work to ensure contract compliance for routine activities of non-complexity, under the direction of a Construction Quality Control Inspector or Manager.

    + Performs materials testing such as nuclear gauge soil and aggregate density.

    + Reviews placement of and performs materials tests on concrete deliveries in accordance with VDOT and ACI standards and makes cylinders for delivery to the labs.

    + Verifies construction of Roadway and Highway materials and placement to be in compliance with drawings, VDOT specifications and standards, special provisions, and contract documents.

    + Monitors and observes limited contractual fieldwork, including excavations, storm drain piping installation, drainage facilities, concrete placement, soil and aggregate placement, road surfaces, and pile driving under supervision.

    + Advises inspector supervisors and contractor supervisors/foremen of non-conforming field tests.

    + Takes field measurements of materials placed/tested and records daily production and test results.

    + Completes daily reports with attached VDOT materials testing forms and receives materials delivery tickets for compliance and submission to the contractor.

    + Communicates effectively with clients, contractors, and staff to resolve problems at the lowest level.

    + Adheres to project scope, schedule, and budget, and reviews all work for completeness and accuracy before submitting.

    + Maintains all required certifications and participates in training courses as required.

    Additional Skills & Qualifications

     

    + Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Engineering Technology, Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or an applicable field preferred.

    + Active ACI Certification (Soils and Aggregate, Concrete, Erosion and Sediment, etc.) or a degree in Civil Engineering or Engineering Technology with construction experience.

    + 0-2+ years of experience.

    + Experience working outdoors and in varying weather conditions.

    + Ability to work night shifts when needed with prior notice and night shift differential pay.

    Work Environment

    This position is outdoors, in the field, and on-site at the Hampton Roads Bridge Tunnel or Elbow Road in Virginia Beach. Significant overtime opportunities are available, and inspectors are provided with a company vehicle and gas card. Inspectors have the opportunity to progress and be promoted to more senior positions, with company-paid certifications and potential pay raises for acquired certifications.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $35.00/hr.
