A woman- and minority-owned real estate investment and development firm headquartered in San Francisco is seeking a Family Office Accountant to support its growing portfolio. Founded in 2014, the firm specializes in repositioning and developing underutilized properties in high-growth, supply-constrained markets, with a focus on build-for-rent communities and industrial assets. The Opportunity

This is a highly visible role supporting the Controller in managing accounting, financial reporting, and long-term tax and investment planning for the family’s entities and portfolio. You’ll work closely with ownership and trusted advisors on a wide range of strategic financial initiatives. The ideal candidate will bring a strong foundation in tax accounting—either partnership or high-net-worth—or deep expertise in Yardi or QuickBooks. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a dynamic environment with a mix of recurring and project-based work.

Key Responsibilities

+ Assist the Controller with accounting and financial reporting for the Family Office and affiliated investment funds

+ Maintain general ledgers for a portfolio of residential and commercial properties, partnerships, and investments

+ Manage bill payments, bank account monitoring, and capital calls for alternative investments

+ Prepare documentation and support for external tax advisors and accounting firms

+ Oversee quality control and manage offshore accounting teams and outsourced service providers

+ Prepare year-end tax workpapers and support tax filings and documentation for tax attorneys

+ Contribute to long-term tax planning, including research and materials for strategies such as 1031 exchanges, opportunity zones, and capital gains scenarios

+ Create concise summaries of investment performance, key metrics, and strategic recommendations

+ Assist in developing improved reporting tools and financial metrics for management and ownership

+ Participate in special projects including renovation tracking, process improvement, and reporting automation

+ Collaborate closely with ownership and support the Controller in maintaining internal controls

+ Provide backup support for the Assistant Controller as needed

Requirements

Qualifications

+ Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field

+ Minimum 3+ years of accounting experience; Family Office, partnership, or high-net-worth tax background preferred

+ Strong working knowledge of tax code, reporting requirements, and recent tax law changes

+ Experience reviewing work prepared by external accountants or offshore teams

+ Proficiency in Yardi Voyager, QuickBooks, and advanced Excel skills preferred

+ Tech-savvy with experience using Google Suite, Microsoft Office, and cloud-based collaboration tools

+ Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present financial data clearly and concisely

+ Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and able to manage shifting priorities in a small, high-performing team
