    Position Summary

    The Director, Data Discovery Services is a strategic leadership role within the Enterprise Data Platforms team focused on leading the development, implementation, and ongoing enhancement of data marketplace and data discovery, including ontology management, semantic modeling, and enterprise search, capabilities across the organization. Collaborating closely with business stakeholders, you will leverage cutting-edge concepts and technologies to ensure that Data Discovery Services enable rapid, reliable, and seamless findability and accessibility to high-quality data.

    Key Responsibilities:

    + Oversee the implementation, optimization, and continuous evolution of Data Marketplace & Discovery Services, offering centralized systems for discovery, reuse, and access to data and data products.

    + Design and implement advanced features within the data marketplace capability such as instant data access decisioning, data access policy management, and monitoring agents to enhance user experience.

    + Implement proactive, transparent, and reliable data access practices by monitoring and reporting on data usage and discoverability. Define and track KPIs related to data discovery and provide regular updates to executive leadership.

    + Establish and maintain standards for data cataloging, metadata management and discoverability.

    + Implement and continuously enhance semantic capabilities promoting the efficient creation, utilization, and maintenance of data.

    + Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders, including teams across data science, data engineering, and business functions to understand their goals, objectives, and requirements to translate them into effective data discovery solutions/capabilities.

    + Collaborate with data owners, stewards, and consumers to ensure data discovery tools are intuitive and meet evolving business needs.

    + Assess and manage relationships with external vendors and evaluate tools to ensure optimal performance and cost-effectiveness.

    + Ensure that solutions are scalable, reliable, and maintainable while adhering to applicable policies and procedures.

    + Contribute to the overall Enterprise Data Platforms vision by accelerating data management innovations and supporting federated models of data ownership across the enterprise.

    Qualifications & Experience:

    Required:

    + 10+ years of experience in data management, data governance, data science, and/or an information technology related field delivering and supporting data solutions/capabilities with at least 5 years in a leadership role managing a complex data environment.

    + Demonstrated expertise in data discovery, data cataloging, and marketplace platforms within large, complex organizations.

    + Exceptional knowledge of implementing or managing metadata management and semantic layer solutions.

    + Deep understanding of data lifecycle, enterprise data architecture, and open-source or composable framework concepts.

    + Exceptional strategic thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex business requirements and translate them into robust solutions.

    + Strong leadership qualities, including the ability to influence and drive change in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

    + Demonstrated success in designing, delivering, and supporting integrated solutions using disparate technologies.

    + Excellent project management and organizational skills.

    + Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.

    Ideal Candidates Would Also Have:

    + Experience working internationally with a globally dispersed team including management of offshore technical development team(s).

    + Prior experience working in a global life sciences data analytic/data science environment.

    Compensation Overview:

    Princeton - NJ - US: $200,180 - $242,565

     

    The starting compensation range(s) for this role are listed above for a full-time employee (FTE) basis. Additional incentive cash and stock opportunities (based on eligibility) may be available. The starting pay rate takes into account characteristics of the job, such as required skills, where the job is performed, the employee's work schedule, job-related knowledge, and experience. Final, individual compensation will be decided based on demonstrated experience.

    On-site Protocol

     

    BMS has an occupancy structure that determines where an employee is required to conduct their work. This structure includes site-essential, site-by-design, field-based and remote-by-design jobs. The occupancy type that you are assigned is determined by the nature and responsibilities of your role:

     

    Site-essential roles require 100% of shifts onsite at your assigned facility. Site-by-design roles may be eligible for a hybrid work model with at least 50% onsite at your assigned facility. For these roles, onsite presence is considered an essential job function and is critical to collaboration, innovation, productivity, and a positive Company culture. For field-based and remote-by-design roles the ability to physically travel to visit customers, patients or business partners and to attend meetings on behalf of BMS as directed is an essential job function.
