    Paralegal

     

    The Paralegal position plays a vital role in supporting our legal and compliance departments and providing administrative assistance to ensure smooth operations. The ideal candidate will have a background in corporate law and possess excellent administrative and communication skills. They should be detail-oriented, able to handle confidential information with integrity, and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

    Essential Functions

    Legal/Compliance Support:

    + Assist in preparing and drafting legal documents, including contracts, agreements, and corporate governance documents.

    + Conduct legal research and gather relevant information to support legal decision-making.

    + Maintain and update corporate records, including minute books, resolutions, and other legal documents.

    + Assist in reviewing and editing legal documents for accuracy, consistency, and compliance with legal requirements.

    + Coordinate with external counsel and internal stakeholders to facilitate legal matters and ensure timely responses.

    + Assist with the organization and preparation of board meetings, including drafting agendas and resolutions.

    + Support and manage projects in the legal and compliance areas.

    + Provide support for higher education institutions with various legal and compliance matters.

    + Assist with regulatory compliance requirements for higher education institutions.

    + Support student affairs matters and related legal issues.

    + Support faculty affairs matters and related legal issues.

    + Assist with accreditation support and compliance.

    + Provide support for policy development and review for higher education institutions.

    Administrative Assistance:

    + Provide administrative support to the legal/compliance departments, including managing calendars, scheduling meetings, and coordinating travel arrangements.

    + Handle incoming and outgoing correspondence, including emails, letters, and phone calls, and ensure timely responses.

    + Maintain and organize files, databases, forms and documents, both electronic and hard copies, ensuring they are easily accessible, up to date and properly archived.

    + Prepare reports, presentations, and other materials as required.

    + Assist with budget tracking, expense reconciliation, and invoice processing.

    + Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and exercise discretion in handling confidential matters.

    Communication and Collaboration:

    + Serve as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, including employees, executives, and external legal counsel.

    + Foster effective communication within the legal and compliance departments and other departments to facilitate efficient workflow and information sharing.

    + Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support various projects and initiatives.

    + Assist in the coordination and preparation of training materials related to legal compliance and corporate policies.

    + Other duties as assigned.

     

    Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

     

    + Knowledge of corporate law, contract management, and legal terminology.

    + Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload effectively.

    + Detail-oriented and thorough in document review and analysis.

    + Proficient in using legal research tools and software.

    + Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

    + Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues at all levels.

    + Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and other relevant software applications.

    + Discretion and ability to handle confidential information with integrity.

    Qualifications

    + Associate or bachelor’s degree preferred.

    + Experience as a corporate paralegal or legal assistant in a corporate setting.

     

    Hours and Travel

     

    + A typical work week is Monday through Friday

    + Flexible hours required to implement strategy, enterprise initiatives and execute deliverables.

     

    The anticipated salary range for the Paralegal is $65,000 to $72,000 per year. The final salary offered may vary and will be determined based on factors such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, location, and education of the successful candidate. This information is provided per NYS local law.
