    **VCA Avondale Animal Hospital** is seeking a **Hospital Manager** to lead our well-established practice in Des Moines, Iowa.

    About the Role and Job Responsibilities:

    As the Hospital Manager, you will play a vital role in ensuring the success of the hospital’s daily operations while fostering a positive, collaborative culture for our medical and support teams. This position is ideal for a motivated, people-focused leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment and enjoys both the strategic and hands-on sides of leadership.

     

    You will partner closely with the Medical Director and Regional Operation Director to drive operational excellence, client satisfaction, and team engagement—all while supporting VCA’s mission of delivering exceptional veterinary care to every pet and client, every time.

     

    + Lead, develop, and support the veterinary, technical, and administrative teams to ensure quality patient care and outstanding client service.

    + Collaborate with the Medical Director to establish goals, policies, and strategies that drive efficient and profitable hospital operations.

    + Oversee recruitment, onboarding, performance reviews, coaching, and, when necessary, disciplinary actions in partnership with Regional Management.

    + Review monthly P&L statements and partner with the Medical Director and Regional Operations team to identify opportunities for revenue growth and expense management.

    + Participate in annual budget planning, forecasting, and capital expenditure discussions with home office and regional leadership.

    + Demonstrate an “owner mentality” by modeling teamwork, accountability, and a hands-on approach to ensuring smooth daily hospital operations.

    + Promote a culture focused on minimizing patient stress and enhancing the client experience through compassionate communication and care.

    + Ensure accurate and up-to-date maintenance of medical and surgical records in compliance with VCA standards.

    + Oversee the resolution of client concerns and medical complaints, ensuring issues are handled promptly and professionally.

    + Positively represent the hospital and VCA within the veterinary community and local area, fostering trust and long-term relationships with clients and partners.

    What We’re Looking For​:

    + 2–3 years of customer service and financial budget management experience

    + Strong leadership skills with the ability to coach, motivate, and develop a team

    + Background in client service and people management—veterinary experience is a plus

    + Knowledge of sales and marketing techniques

    + Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage a diverse range of audiences and settings

    + Professional demeanor and appearance, with exceptional interpersonal skills and a positive, team-oriented attitude

    + Ability to prioritize, delegate, and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment
