    The Planning, Design & Construction (PD&C) department at CU Boulder is searching for 2 Facilities Engineer I's! The engineering group is involved in a variety of campus issues that rely on engineering and technical expertise. The goal of these positions is to support program managers and lead discipline engineers in meeting the needs of the campus efficiently. The ideal candidate will have a technical background and an interest in expanding their exposure to and knowledge of building systems, construction, and facilities operations.

    Who We Are

     

    The PD&C department is responsible for the planning, design and construction of buildings on campus, in support of CU Boulder's academic mission. Campus Planning focuses on long-range planning and capital development functions of the organization as a balanced counterpart to the project-related functions of Campus Design & Construction. Campus Planning staff strive to guide campus development in a way that gives physical form to the university's mission, vision, and programs through the effective use of human, environmental, and financial resources.

     

    What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

    Technical Planning

    + Small project design - develop documents for construction on small renovation and equipment replacement projects, which may include CAD drawings, narratives, and specifications.

    + Research new technologies for campus standards - look for new technologies that can be applied to campus projects, estimate costs, risks, etc., identify projects as good candidates for pilot programs.

    + Identify scope for maintenance project funding - collect project ideas from sources across campus, prioritize project scope for campus-funded projects, preliminary pricing exercises, and recommendations on combining scopes for efficiency.

    + Building systems and infrastructure auditing - review field conditions of mechanical/electrical equipment, roadways, sidewalks, railing, windows, etc., collect data on a variety of campus infrastructure assets, organize and present information in support of project scoping/funding.

    Quality Assurance

    + Building systems commissioning - assist in identifying project requirements, reviewing installations in the field, and functional testing of equipment. Work with in-house and 3rd party commissioning authorities and project managers to support project execution.

    + Review construction project submittals - review projects proposed by contractors for compliance with campus standards and project specifications.

    + Research construction questions for response - as questions come in from contractors and architect/engineer teams, review questions against any requirements in campus standards and prepare responses for Owner response.

    Code Compliance

    + Building construction inspections - assist campus building department with routing project inspections; this may include framing, drywall, firestopping penetrations, insulation, etc.

    + Routine fire code inspections - assist campus fire marshal with periodic inspections of occupied buildings; this includes identifying obstructions to exits, improper storage, equipment condition, and other unsafe conditions.

    + Environmental compliance inspections - as part of meeting obligations with state permits, assist the campus civil engineer and environmental, health and safety department with project-related and ongoing maintenance inspections of water quality features on campus.

    + Construction plan review - assist discipline leads in reviewing project documents for compliance with adopted codes and standards. This may apply to building, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, energy conservation, etc.

     

    What You Should Know

     

    We are hiring for 2 positions! These positions will have the ability to work in a hybrid work format, with 3 days a week usually being required to be in office. These positions anticipated work schedule is Monday - Friday during regular business hours.

     

    What We Can Offer

     

    The salary range for this role is $70,000 - $75,712 annually.

    What We Require

     

    Bachelor's degree in engineering, architecture, or construction-related field. A combination of school and/or work experience in a related field can substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.

    + Ability to be an independent worker, as well as work in a team setting.
