    LDWF supports a strong work ethic in its employees and incorporates the use of good science, accurate information and technology. The Office of Wildlife exists to provide wise stewardship of Louisiana's wildlife and associated habitats and increase wildlife conservation awareness.

    GIS ANALYST 1-3/ EAST BATON ROUGE

    This position provides Geospatial Technology support (including GIS, GPS and Remote Sensing analysis) primarily to the Office of Wildlife and secondarily to other units of LDWF on an as-needed basis.

    IDEAL CANDIDATE

    + Proficient in ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Desktop.

    + Experience with developing and managing public and internal ArcGIS Online websites and apps.

    + Experience with performing field data collection with Trimble GPS software and hardware including developing and implementing field data collection workflows in various environmental conditions.

    + Experience with creating GIS datasets based on legal descriptions.

    + Experienced with providing GIS technical support to GIS end-users including providing training sessions in group settings.

    + Ability to communicate professionally, orally and in writing.

    + Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a group setting.

    + Possesses a strong work ethic.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Two years of experience in using geographic information systems (GIS), using digital mapping and/or surveying technology, or in aerial photography; OR

     

    Twelve semester hours in a computer science, GIS, or geospatial field plus one year of experience in using geographic information systems, using digital mapping and/or surveying technology, or in aerial photography; OR

     

    A bachelor’s degree with twelve semester hours in a computer science, GIS, or geospatial field.

    Job Duties and Other Information

    JOB DUTIES

    + Essential Duties

    + Performs GIS/spatial analysis.

    + Develops cartographic and online interactive map products.

    + Acquires GPS field data and post-processes such data if needed.

    + Performs remote sensing/image processing and analysis using satellite imagery, aerial photography and LIDAR data.

    + Provides output data to staff biologists to support program efforts.

    + Provides coordination for yearly WMA, Refuge and Conservation Area map updates and functions as data editor and cartographer.

    + Coordinates with LDWF Legal staff, State Land Office staff and other relevant entities to ensure consistency in each organization’s LDWF property boundary data. Ensures timely production and distribution of yearly updated WMA, Refuge and Conservation Area hard copy maps to field offices and LDWF HQ. Updates digital WMA, Refuge and Conservation Area maps continuously throughout the year as change requests are received and coordinates with Public Information staff to upload digital map products to the Department’s website.

    + Makes changes to associated online interactive maps and data download websites as changes are made to Department property geospatial features and works with Program Managers to develop geospatial products for hunting season regulations, waterfowl zoning, deer areas, turkey zones, mineral exploration and other relevant activities.

    + Works with biological staff to fulfill various wildlife geospatial needs (presentations, general requests, biological sampling, biological planning, etc.).

    + Assists LDWF Land Acquisition Attorney and other Legal staff relative to disputes, acquisitions and other land transactions. Enters metes and bounds information from property descriptions of lands transactions and agreements into ArcGIS to allow incorporation with existing geospatial datasets.

    + Creates metes and bound property descriptions from ArcGIS geospatial data for use by Land Acquisition Attorney, other Legal Staff and other relevant parties.

    + Updates LDWF property boundaries as changes are made. Assists region biologists with marking of LDWF property boundaries.

    + Maintains competency in latest geospatial software releases and geospatial technology by attending workshops, conferences and/or utilizing online training. Provides geospatial technical support to Office of Wildlife staff on an as needed basis. Provides ArcGIS, Trimble and other training to Office of Wildlife staff. Performs other duties as assigned.

    This position is domiciled in East Baton Rouge Parish.

     

    Appointment Type:Job appointment, probational appointment, promotional, or detail to special duty.

     

    If filled as a job appointment, there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a probational appointment should funding become available. Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a probational appointment if selected.
