Description
The Transit Operations Supervisor is responsible for overseeing daily transit operations across all service modes, including Paratransit and Mobility on Demand. Working under general supervision, this position ensures efficient, safe, and reliable transit services by supervising staff, coordinating schedules, managing incidents, and maintaining compliance with LeeTran and Lee County standards.
Duties and Responsibilities
+ Supervision & Leadership:
+ Supervise Bus Operators and support staff to ensure safe and efficient transit operations.
+ Provide coaching, mentoring, and professional development opportunities for operators.
+ Participate in the interview and hiring process; conduct performance evaluations and recommend corrective or developmental actions as needed.
+ Operations Management:
+ Coordinate operator and fleet scheduling to maintain effective route coverage.
+ Dispatch operators via two-way radio and communicate route updates related to detours, road closures, or special events.
+ Respond to and document service-related accidents, incidents, and customer feedback.
+ Monitor operations in the field and assist operators to resolve issues promptly.
+ Provides transportation assistance when necessary.
+ Safety & Compliance:
+ Ensure adherence to LeeTran and Lee County policies, as well as federal and state transportation regulations.
+ Monitor and review onboard video surveillance and vehicle tracking software; retrieve and archive footage when necessary.
+ Enforce safety and security standards for all transit routes and facilities.
+ Make Reasonable Suspicion and Post-Accident Testing decisions in compliance with DOT regulations (49 CFR Parts 40 and/or 655).
+ Administrative & Emergency Support:
+ Complete reports, records, and other documentation accurately and on time.
+ Assist with scheduling, reservations, and occasional transport assignments as needed.
+ Coordinate with local and regional agencies during emergency situations and may serve as a staff representative in the Emergency Operations Center.
+ Administers ongoing employee performance evaluations.
+ Performs other related work as assigned.
Education, Experience, Licensing
Minimum Qualifications
+ Education & Experience:
+ Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to:
+ An Associate’s Degree or completion of two (2) years of college-level coursework in a closely related field, and
+ Two (2) years of experience in passenger bus operations, including some supervisory or related experience.
+ Licensing and Certifications
+ Must have a valid Class A or B CDL without Air Brake restriction and with Passenger Endorsement, or a CDL Permit meeting those same requirements before hire.
+ Must obtain a Florida CDL Class B License with Passenger Endorsement and no Air Brake restriction within 90 days of hire (training and testing provided by LeeTran).
+ Must pass a Florida Department of Transportation medical exam and keep a current medical card.
+ This is a safety-sensitive position and requires drug and alcohol testing per DOT regulations (49 CFR Parts 40 and/or 655).
+ Must pass a fingerprint-based background check and a Consumer Report background check before hire.
Preferred Qualifications
+ Experience supervising transit operations or transportation personnel.
+ Familiarity with vehicle tracking and video monitoring systems.
+ Experience with transit dispatching or scheduling software.
Supplemental Information
+ LeeTran operates seven (7) days a week, including holidays.
+ Hours of operation are approximately 3:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m., with extended hours during peak seasons.
+ Work schedules vary and may include weekends, evenings, and holidays.
+ This position is considered essential and may require work during emergencies or declared disasters.
