Job Description
The Department of Educational Leadership and Workforce Development at Old Dominion University invites applications for an Educational Leadership Professor of Practice to support the administrative and teaching functions of our MSED / EDS in K12 Educational Leadership program. The candidate will bring;
+ Practical expertise in educational leadership and administration,.
+ Contributing to student success.
+ Program development.
+ Community engagement through innovative, equity-centered approaches.
+ Building partnerships with school districts to develop and maintain cohorts in collaboration with school districts is essential.
This position offers an exciting opportunity for an experienced K12 practitioner dedicated to advancing transformative leadership in education to serve as a vital bridge between university level preparation and educational leadership in action. The role combines administrative support, program coordination, and teaching responsibilities, with a focus on bringing cutting edge research-based concepts to real-world practice-oriented learning for future educational leaders.

Minimum required education and/or special licenses, registrations, trainings, or certifications
Ph.D. or Ed.D. in educational leadership, administration, or closely related field
Minimum required level and type of experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities
+ Significant practical experience in school or district leadership roles, with a strong understanding of licensure requirements in Virginia.
+ Proven ability to teach online or hybrid courses effectively.
+ Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
+ Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse academic community.
Preferred Qualifications
Prior higher education teaching experience.
Experience with program development or curriculum design.

About the Department
The department has twenty-two full-time faculty that offer graduate programs in Workforce and Organizational Development, Community College Leadership, Educational Leadership, and Higher Education Leadership. Undergraduate programs in Occupational & Technical Studies include Fashion Merchandising, Industrial Technology, Training Specialist, and Career & Technical Education (Marketing Education and Technology Education).
Our MSED , ED.S., and Ph.D. programs in Educational Leadership prepare visionary leaders committed to student and community success. Rooted in a collaborative, interdisciplinary, and policy-informed framework, our programs emphasize reflective scholarship, leadership development, and practical Field-based experiences. The licensure component specifically prepares students for PK-12 administrative and supervisory roles across Virginia and beyond.
Our Master of Science in Education and Educational Specialist degrees prepares students for leadership roles in schools and school districts. The program leads to full Commonwealth of Virginia Licensure in Educational Administration and Supervision, Pre-K-12. Coursework provides conceptual and theoretical knowledge, as well as practical field experience.
The Educational Leadership Program uses a cohort model where students attend small, personalized, live, online classes with the same educational leadership students throughout the program. The unique online learning environment enables our students and faculty to engage in a class setting that simulates a face-to-face classroom. Our program caters to full-time working professionals.
