    Description of Work Unit

     

    The Department of Ecosystem Science and Sustainability ( ESS ) integrates the latest ecosystem science into the real-world sustainable management of natural resources.

     

    Research is often related to the challenges humans face in sustainably managing ecosystem services and the amazing ways in which organisms interact with their environments to form complex ecosystems.

    Position Summary

    An open postdoctoral researcher position is available to work on understanding the role of forest functional and structural diversity in regulating vertical profiles of canopy fluxes within Earth system models. The postdoctoral researcher will be based at Colorado State University in the Ecological Climate and Global Change Lab under the supervision of Dr. Danica Lombardozzi and will work with closely with collaborators at the National Center for Atmospheric Research, Michigan State University, and University of British Columbia.

     

    The position may support a hybrid work arrangement but fully in-person is preferred.

    Required Job Qualifications

    + A PhD in ecosystem science, earth system science, or a related discipline

    + Experience coding in python, R, Fortran, or similar languages

    + The successful candidate must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. by proposed start date; the department will not provide visa sponsorship for this position.

    Preferred Job Qualifications

    + An understanding of forest carbon, water, and energy fluxes

    + Strong data management and analysis skills

    + Experience using and developing process-based ecosystem or Earth system models

    + The postdoctoral researcher will integrate National Ecological Observatory Network ( NEON ) data and the Community Land Model ( CLM ) with associated sub-models of forest demography ( FATES ) and canopy structure (multi-layer canopy model) .

    + Evaluate the influence of forest structure and function on ecosystem fluxes at local and short-term scales across a latitudinal gradient.
