For training and developmental purposes, assignments may include work that is typically performed at a higher level. As the engineering staff member becomes proficient, the individual will perform duties more independently. Selected candidates may be assigned to work with research and engineering staff to design, fabricate, and deploy physics instrumentation on a fusion experiment at PPPL, the National Spherical Torus Experiment as well as assignments to other multiple engineering projects at PPPL.

+ Assignments usually include one or more of the following:

+ Design and development of equipment.

    + Test of materials.

+ Preparation of specifications and technical procedures.

    + Oversight of fabrication.

+ Inspections as well as testing and oversight of installation of components.
