    Assistant Professor of Teaching in Nutrition and Food Science (RD/PhD)

    Essential functions (job duties):

    Wayne State University’s Department of Nutrition and Food Science offers undergraduate and graduate programs that integrate nutrition, food science, and human health within an urban public research university setting. The MS-CPD program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics (ACEND). The department also offers a newly launched online MS in Nutrition and Food Science, designed to meet national demand for advanced education among practicing dietitians and other nutrition professionals.     The Department of Nutrition and Food Science in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences at Wayne State University invites applications for a full-time Assistant Professor of Teaching in Nutrition and Food Science. This non-tenure track position requires a PhD in Nutrition and Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) credentialing. The successful candidate will contribute to the teaching, clinical, and experiential learning missions of the department, with particular emphasis on supporting accredited dietetics education, in-person and online teaching, and innovative program initiatives. Competitive salary commensurate with experience.

     

    Develop and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in nutrition in all modalities.

     

    Help coordinate a transfer program with local Culinary Arts community college programs to integrate culinary education and nutrition science.

     

    Participate in the oversight and accreditation of the MS-CPD alongside clinical faculty, and assist with responsibilities of managing an ACEND-accredited program.

     

    Provide service to the community and to the dietetics profession.

    Qualifications:

    Doctoral degree in Nutrition and/or Dietetics.

     

    Registered Dietitian (RD/RDN) credential.

     

    College-level teaching experience.

     

    Proficiency with instructional technology for online teaching.

     

    Applicants must submit two documents: 1) a cover letter (2 pages max) that introduces teaching and research experiences, and articulates their fit for the position, and 2) a curriculum vitae (CV) that includes the names and contact information of three references. Additional materials will be requested from finalists later in the process.

    Preferred qualifications:

    • Experience with ACEND-accredited program administration or accreditation processes. • Clinical experience in medical nutrition therapy, community nutrition, or related dietetic practice areas. • Culinary experience or demonstrated interest in integrating culinary applications into nutrition education. • Background in exercise metabolism or nutrition for physical performance.
