Function of Position:
The Engineering Science/Physics Laboratory Technician is responsible for the setup, storage, repair, and maintenance of all Engineering Science and Physics laboratory equipment and support of students in course projects through the construction and maintenance of competition tracks.
Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:
+ Maintain records of laboratory schedules and equipment needed.
+ Set up and return to storage all equipment used for laboratories, demonstrations, or displays.
+ Ensure the proper operation of all setups for student labs.
+ Calibrate and adjust instrumentation as needed.
+ Test procedures and generate sample data for newly designed experiments.
+ Troubleshoot and repair defective or inoperative equipment.
+ Recommend equipment, replacement parts, and consumable items for purchasing.
+ Create and track purchase orders for items approved for purchase.
+ Receive and inspect all newly purchased equipment and supplies.
+ Advise faculty and students on the proper use and application of laboratory equipment.
+ Ensure appropriate and effective use of storage space.
+ Maintain an inventory of equipment and items used by the department
+ Maintain documentation on the use and location of equipment for labs and demonstrations.
+ Keep a library of equipment manuals and operating instructions.
+ Be available to loan students supplies and equipment for use in course projects and maintain records on what is loaned and returned.
+ Construct and maintain boards used for curricular and co-curricular projects and competitions
+ Supervise student aides and work-study students working in our laboratories.
+ As needed, supervise students in our prototyping lab (9-156 and 9-156A) in the safe use of machine tools such as mills, lathes, saws, sanders, grinders, and soldering irons.
+ Operating and maintaining the departments' 3D printers
+ Act as the department's computer liaison to Communication and Network Services (CNS).
+ Monitors computer hardware and desktop image in all Engineering and Physics labs; reports any concerns to CNS.
+ Responsible for adhering to the College Code of Conduct.
+ Responsible for contributing to and maintaining an inclusive and collaborative College environment.
+ Responsible for maintaining technological competencies utilized by the College.
+ Expected to attend weekly technician meetings and monthly department meetings.
+ Performs other duties and responsibilities assigned by the department chair.

Job Requirements:
Required Qualifications:
+ Associate's degree in a science or engineering-related field from an accredited institution.
+ Proven ability to use, maintain, and repair mechanical and electronic equipment.
+ Demonstrated ability to work independently and with a team to obtain organizational goals.
+ Experience working effectively on long-term projects with minimal supervision.
+ Competency in the use of computer software and hardware.
+ Ability to use and maintain machining equipment such as mills, lathes, saws, sanders, and other machine shop equipment.
+ Ability with woodworking for the purposes of building competition tracks to the necessary specifications.
+ Commitment to supporting an inclusive environment on campus. Evidence of respect for and understanding of people with diverse backgrounds, abilities, and needs.
+ Evidence of commitment to the philosophy of a comprehensive community college.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Employment or experience in both electronics and machining.
+ Experience in managing an inventory of supplies and equipment.
+ Competency with using SolidWorks (CAD), Logger Pro, and PASCO Capstone software.
+ Ability in CNC Machining.
+ Ability to program microcontrollers.
+ Demonstrated ability to create engineering prototypes.
+ Successful completion of college physics courses.
+ Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently
Additional Information:
Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity, and college budget. This position has a range of $45,000 to $50,000 and is based on the mentioned factors.
