    Summary This position is located in the Reserve Fleets, Office of Ship Operations, Office of the Deputy Associate Administrator for Federal Sealift, Office of the Associate Administrator for Strategic Sealift, Maritime Administration (MARAD). Responsibilities The High Voltage Electrical Worker: Interprets wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, electrical maintenance manuals, and other manufacturer's instructional manuals for high voltage power distribution systems (from 4,000 to 13,200 VAC), 480 VAC, 220 VAC, 110 VAC, 220 VDC, 110 VDC, 24 VDC, and 12 VDC, equipment. Assists in performing all types of high and low voltage cable splicing which includes above ground, underground and underwater which is performed on a floating barge and shipboard. Assists in the installation, connection, and energizing of the various independent electrical systems installed on the ships from sources such as floating power barges, diesel generators and shore power to provide electric power to ship's switchboard, or independent systems such as fire and flooding alarms, preservation systems, or to any independent power needs such as an anchor windlass. The ideal candidate should possess the skill set and ability to assist in a wide variety of electrical inspections, tests, troubleshooting, repairs, splicing (high, medium, and low voltage), power distribution, maintenance and installation of high voltage power distribution systems (from 4, 000 to 13, 200 VAC), 480 VAC, 220 VAC, 110 VAC, 220 VDC, 110 VDC, 24 VDC and 12 VDC electrical cables, switches, transformers, and other components associated with these electrical systems. Requirements Conditions of Employment You must be a U.S.Citizen and eligible for consideration. You must meet specialized experience to qualify. Qualifications Qualifications for the position are based on the training, experience, or other requirements that determine which applicants would be able to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled. To qualify for the WG-08, your experience should include experience equal or equivalent to the following: The ability to perform general arithmetic and algebra for electrical formulas. The ability to use of electrical hand tools, test instruments, and test equipment. The ability to assist High Voltage Electricians with the satisfactory completion of Phase IV electrical inspections, and electrical overhaul, installation, maintenance, and minor repairs as assigned, following safety and standard procedures. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
