    Job Description

A client of Insight Global is seeking a Design and Controls Engineer to join the team at the Starfire Optical Range, located on Kirtland Air Force Base in Albuquerque, NM. This role focuses on advancing electro-optical systems through hardware, firmware, and software development. You will contribute to cutting-edge research supporting the Air Force Research Laboratory’s mission to enhance Space Domain Awareness. The facility hosts telescopes from 0.5m to 3.5m and requires innovative control solutions for complex optical systems. This position is fully onsite and offers the chance to work in a multidisciplinary environment at a world-class research site.

    Essential Position Responsibilities:

    - Develop mathematical models for dynamic systems (mechanical, electrical, thermal) using physics-based and empirical techniques.

    - Analyze system performance, including stability, linearity, and transient/steady-state responses.

    - Design and implement advanced control strategies such as PID, state-space, optimal, robust, and model predictive control.

    - Create multi-variable control solutions for interconnected systems.

    - Use MATLAB/Simulink for simulation, analysis, and rapid prototyping of control systems.

    - Conduct simulations to validate algorithm stability and robustness under varying conditions.

    - Perform Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) testing for algorithm verification.

    - Optimize control parameters for accuracy, speed, and energy efficiency.

    - Collaborate with software and firmware teams to implement algorithms in C/C++, VHDL, or similar languages for embedded platforms.

    - Support system integration, commissioning, and troubleshooting of control-related issues.

    - Prepare detailed design documentation, simulation reports, and validation plans.

    - Communicate technical concepts clearly to multidisciplinary teams.

Schedule: Candidates MUST be willing to work 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shifts depending on business needs. Night Shifts follow a 2-week on, 2-week off basis.

    Estimated Pay Rage: $56 - $68 / hour

*The pay rate for this position may vary based on several factors, including but not limited to the candidate's qualifications, experience, certifications, and location. Additionally, the final pay rate may be contingent upon the successful completion of pre-employment requirements such as background checks, drug testing, and physical examinations.
