    Job Summary

    Are you passionate about supporting learning, research, and discovery in a dynamic academic library setting? We are looking for a collaborative, service-oriented individual to help lead afternoon/evening operations and provide exceptional support across library services.

    In this role, you will:

    + Assist users with information and reference inquiries in person, by phone, by/via email, and online.

    + Support a welcoming and productive environment by coordinating services at the Information Desks at main entrances, the Knowledge Commons, and ProtoSpace.

    + Help ensure the library remains a safe and accessible space during evening hours through facility oversight and support.

    Responsibilities

    _Lead patron service at all service desks during afternoon and evening hours Sunday through Thursday:_

     

    + Oversees the library’s commitment to quality customer service while working at service desks approximately 32 hours per week.

    + Leads the part-time staff.

    + Ensures proper training and professional development of part-time staff.

    + Assists in creating and modifying desk schedules to ensure proper coverage of all service desks.

    + Assists in the tracking, accumulating, and reporting of relevant department statistics as assigned.

    + Provides backup supervisory support in the Knowledge Commons when needed.

     

    _Provide reference, information, and circulation assistance at all library service desks:_

     

    + Provides information and referral services including connecting patrons with online tools and how-to-guides.

    + Provides information by searching or recommending print or electronic sources or titles, placing material requests, searching shelves, or by referral to other libraries or community sources.

    + Instructs patrons in using online catalog, print and electronic sources to access information, and in using computers and equipment.

    + Assists with on-demand circulation and cashier transactions.

    + Assists with the pull services in the evenings.

    + Fulfills Automated Retrieval Center ( ARC ) requests after 6pm Monday – Thursday and on Sundays.

     

    _Coordinate technology circulation services:_

     

    + Helps manage the technology equipment fulfillment program.

    + Performs basic troubleshooting and maintenance on equipment or completing internal tech requests for additional support.

    + Develops and follows the cleaning and maintenance schedules of equipment in the Knowledge Commons and ProtoSpace.

     

    _Contribute to the safety and protection of library patrons, employees, and collections:_

     

    + Helps maintain a safe and secure environment by conducting facility rounds, monitor users’ activities to ensure compliance with library policies, assess and report suspicious activities to the proper campus agencies, and act as first responders in emergency situations, including library or campus evacuations.

    + Responds to building emergencies in the library and works directly with other supervisors in the department on resolution.

    + Serves as backup to the Information and Operations (Night) Supervisor and on occasion may be asked to staff a closing shift until 12:30 AM.

    Minimum Qualifications

    Six years related experience including one year supervisory experience or equivalency (one year of education can be substituted for one year of related work experience) required; basic knowledge of library science techniques and principles in order to provide oversight to assigned area required. Demonstrated human relations and effective communication skills are also required.

    Preferences

     

    + Experience providing customer service and working collaboratively in team settings, especially in environments that involve technology or academic support.

    + Familiarity with computer operating systems, common software applications, and basic troubleshooting—training and support are available.

    + Friendly, approachable, and effective communicator, able to engage with students, faculty, staff, and other library users. Strong organizational skills and a curiosity for learning new systems and tools.

    + Experience in leading or supervising others.
