Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('Versant') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.
Versant’s Global Security team manages the company’s operational risks and advises the business on other commercial, strategic or reputational challenges, with functions covering audits & investigations, business resilience (incident & crisis management, business continuity), digital risk, event security, global operations & insights, health, safety & wellness, newsroom safety, executive protection and workplace security. The department covers a diverse technical portfolio leveraged to ensure risks are reasonably managed, security threats addressed, and disruptions limited in support of Versant’ strategic goals.
About the Role
The ability to remain resilient in the face of disruption - from physical events to major system outages and a multitude of other incidents - is one of the most critical challenges facing businesses today. For a dynamic company such as Versant, operating across a quickly changing global landscape and facing unique risks, ensuring business resilience is critical to enabling our core business objectives.
The Sr Manager Investigations and Intelligence role requires an experienced practitioner well-versed in risk, resilience and effective controls. Based out of our global headquarters in New York City this is a hybrid position balancing requirements between remote and on-site working. Reporting to the VP of News Security, a successful candidate is expected to travel up to 10-15% of the year within most of the travel taking place domestically and responsible for delivering an incident and business continuity management program across the company.
Role Purpose
The Investigations & Intelligence Analyst plays a critical role in supporting Versant’s business by uncovering, analyzing, and contextualizing complex information. This position combines advanced research skills, open-source intelligence (OSINT) methods, data analysis, and investigative techniques to identify patterns, track emerging issues, and investigate threats to our employees, facilities and brands.
The role requires strong analytical acumen, attention to detail, and a commitment to ethical investigative practices. Working closely with a broad range of stakeholders, the Analyst ensures that findings are accurate, verifiable, and presented in a way that supports high-quality investigations.
Key Responsibilities
Investigative Research & Analysis
- Conduct in-depth investigations using open-source intelligence (OSINT), public records, proprietary databases, and confidential sources.
- Analyze complex datasets, documents, and digital evidence to identify patterns, anomalies, and connections.
- Monitor global and domestic developments, including political, financial, environmental, security, and social issues, for potential story leads.
- Provide intelligence briefings, timelines, and background dossiers.
Collaboration & Editorial Support
- Partner with law enforcement and intelligence providers to design and execute research strategies.
- Translate technical findings into clear, accessible insights for non-technical audiences.
- Work with multimedia and data visualization teams to present investigative findings in engaging, innovative formats.
- Coordinate with legal and standards teams to ensure compliance with ethical and regulatory requirements.
Monitoring & Threat Assessment
- Track disinformation campaigns, digital threats, and reputational risks affecting the media landscape.
- Assess the credibility of sources and potential impact of information before publication.
- Support newsroom security through intelligence monitoring related to reporters’ safety in high-risk environments.
Key Skills & Experience
Essential:
- Proven experience in investigative research, intelligence analysis, or related fields (journalism, law enforcement, government, think tanks, NGOs).
- Expertise in OSINT techniques, including social media analysis, geolocation, and verification methods.
- Strong data analysis skills, including proficiency with spreadsheets, visualization tools, and (ideally) programming languages.
- Demonstrated ability to synthesize complex information into actionable insights.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- High ethical standards, discretion, and attention to detail.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with financial investigations, corporate structures, and asset tracing.
- Experience in cybersecurity, disinformation monitoring, or geopolitical risk analysis.
- Knowledge of multiple languages and cultural contexts.
- Previous work in a newsroom or media organization.
