Position Details
+ **Benefits Eligible:** No
+ **Shift Details:** One 12 hour shift per week.
+ **Department:** 4T Observation: 15 bed unit. Considered an extension of the ER as we see patients who come in and clearly have something going on but we're not exactly sure what. They don't have a diagnosis that qualifies them for inpatient status but we don't feel safe sending them home so they come to the obs unit for futher workup and rule out. We do lots of diagnostic testing, specialty consults and/or set up for outpatient follow up. We see lots of cardiac/stroke/GI/respiratory/neuro work up and rule out. We see patients from the cath lab recovering from cath lab or pacemaker procedures, stroke/TIA, seizure patients, and your general GI/respiratory illnesses. Our goal is to treat the patient and discharge within 18-48 hours or some of our patients are more sick than we originally thought and they will convert to inpatient status and transfer to an inpatient unit. We can be a fast paced unit, often discharging a large majority of our patients and filling back up on the unit. Our ratio is 1:5 day and night. This is a great place to see a multitude of diagnoses and learn alot of about work up, plan of care, treatment, etc for those diagnoses.
