This position is 100% onsite at our Bohemia, NY office.
This position requires a U.S Person or a person who can qualify for a Department of State or Department of Commerce License.
The compensation for this role is $80,000 to $90,000 annually.
Position Summary:
TheComponent Engineerwill support the Design Engineering team in selecting components used in our products. This individual will work closely with engineering teams and suppliers to ensure components meet system requirements and reliability standards. The Component Engineer will also contribute to resolving obsolescence issues, creating procurement specifications and supporting reliability predictions.
Key Position Accountabilities:
+ Component Selection & Support:
+ Support the Design Engineering team in component selection during the design and development phases, ensuring components are specified correctly to meet project requirements.
+ Analyze system and customer requirements to ensure components meet performance standards without over or under specification.
+ Part Research & Supplier Coordination:
+ Conduct part research to support engineering needs and interface directly with suppliers to ensure part selection aligns with design specifications and requirements.
+ Identify and source alternate components based on cost, availability, and compatibility for new and existing product designs.
+ Obsolescence Management & Compliance:
+ Proactively identify obsolete components and suppliers and develop solutions to mitigate risks associated with obsolescence.
+ Work with suppliers to ensure compliance standards are met and update documentation into the PLM/ERP system.
+ Facilitate EOL procurement and tracking component usage
+ Review BOM components for obsolescence and NRND
+ Procurement & Specifications Management:
+ Create and revise procurement specifications to control and define part/material acquisition for components.
+ Ensure the internal part number descriptions and component attributes are accurate and up-to-date in the database.
Secondary Responsibilities:
+ Design Process Support:
+ Collaborate with engineering teams to provide input for continuous improvement in design processes and component reliability.
+ Documentation & Communication:
+ Create detailed reports, ECNs, Action Notices and component qualifications.
+ Ensure effective communication with cross-functional teams to address design and component-related issues.
+ Vendor & Supplier Coordination:
+ Collaborate with vendors to ensure that component designs are aligned with industry standards and project requirements.
+ Compliance & Database Updates:
+ Assist the environmental compliance team in ensuring that components meet regulatory requirements and manage updates to the PLM/ERP system as necessary.
Job Qualifications:
+ Education & Experience:
+ Bachelor-s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Material Science, Chemistry, Physics, or a related field.
+ Technical Skills:
+ Familiarity with component procurement processes and data mining solutions (e.g., SiliconExpert).
+ Experience with configuration management and product lifecycle processes.
+ Additional Skills & Characteristics:
+ Ability to read, analyze, and interpret complex engineering documents and drawings.
+ Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, to effectively collaborate with internal teams and suppliers.
+ Attention to detail with a focus on ensuring accuracy in documentation and component selection.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Familiarity with electrical/electronic manufacturing products and understanding Bill of Materials (BOM) and manufacturing processes.
+ Experience with obsolescence mitigation strategies.
+ Prior experience working with environmental compliance standards.
