Overview
Performs the duties of a lead Cardiac Sonographer and or lab administrator. Performs 2-D, M-mode and Doppler Echocardiograms, Stress Echocardiograms and assists with Stress & Holter tests. Manages data collection devices, creates and edits laboratory protocols and ensures compliance with hospital procedures. Performs 3D Echocardiograms when trained.
Responsibilities
Clinical
* Performs echocardiograph procedures.
* Responsible for the daily technical operations of procedures in the echo laboratory.
* Assures continuous operation of all instrumentation and manages quality control and quality assurance.
* Explains the testing process to the patient, and instructs and assists the patient during testing
* Responsible for the safe operation and maintenance of echocardiograph equipment.
* Maintains records of all procedures performed, sends reports to requesting physicians, archives images and text of patient examinations and generates billing for procedures.
* Oversees maintenance of procedure manuals to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
* Evaluates new methods, instruments and procedures in collaboration with Leadership of Specialty Services.
* Maintains orderliness and cleanliness of work area.
* Maintains and requisitions adequate supplies.
* Understands and practices proper use of all equipment; never operates equipment inconsistent with manufacturer's instruction.
* Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.
Responsibilities
* Performs all Cardiac Echocardiogram procedures. Edits tracings, makes measurements and enters data into ultrasound computer and database. Distinguishes between normal and abnormal cardiac findings, communicating with physicians appropriately.
* Performs cardiac sonographer duties to meet departmental needs. Recognizes arrhythmias and implications of specific cardiac and related diagnoses to obtain optimal studies and operates complex equipment accordingly.
* Facilitates patient flow within the department and maintains a proactive approach in dealing with patient concerns. Seeks and develops new measures to improve the quality of patient care using a multi-disciplinary approach.
* Plans and executes improvement efforts and resolves issues. Participates in Quality Assurance and Quality Control programs. Responsible for laboratory certification/accreditation and maintenance.
* Works with the quality control section to achieve section and departmental quality standards in order to maintain Center for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) compliance, and any other regulations specific to the section.
* Assists in preparing, reviewing, updating and maintaining the policy and procedure manual as well as the clinical resource manual and materials.
* Ensures that equipment failures are reported and documented and that all equipment and supplies are available.
* May be responsible for lifting patients and moving ultrasound equipment to perform patient tests.
* Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Qualifications
* Associate's degree or the equivalent in education and experience required
* One year of cardiac ultrasound experience required, or equivalent in education and experience
* Certification through American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonographers (ARDMS) as a Registered Diagnostic Cardiac Sonographer (RDCS) in Adult Echocardiography
* Cardiovascular Credentialing International as a Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) or its equivalent
