Summary:

The Bureau of Social Care and Community Supports works to integrate health and human services within the Medicaid program. The bureau is composed of two units, Housing and Social Determinants of Health. This position is in the Social Determinants of Health unit and will assist with implementation of a new certification process for medical respite programs (MRPs) in NYS. MRPs provide individuals who are homeless a place to finish recuperating from a hospital stay or to prepare for an upcoming medical procedure. The incumbent of this position will monitor compliance with physical site requirements to ensure MRPs offer a safe and welcoming environment to this vulnerable population. Tasks include:

+ Reviewing MRP certification applications to ensure physical site requirements are met (This may entail verifying that state and local safety inspections are up to date; reviewing emergency response plans for completeness; and using a standardized template to document basic building characteristics, such as address, number of sleeping areas, and presence/absence of optional amenities.)

+ Conducting on-site inspections of MRPs (Inspections are guided by a tool consisting of yes/no questions that can be answered based on visual observation; attention to detail is more important than technical knowledge of building/fire safety codes.)

+ Assisting with revision of inspection tool based on lessons learned during initial on-site inspections

+ Assisting with other aspects of application processing and MRP performance evaluation, such as engaging with applicant MRPs to clarify physical site information and/or obtain missing documentation; responding to relevant stakeholder questions submitted to the team’s shared mailbox; and collaborating with external contractor to develop workflows for site inspections.

+ Becoming the team’s subject matter expert on building and fire safety codes, including conducting internet research as needed to resolve complex questions about building/fire safety requirements.

The incumbent will attend three on-the-job trainings and pass associated exams to obtain Building Safety Inspector (BSI) certification. Each training is three to five days long; the incumbent will have the opportunity to prepare for exams during working hours.

Applicants must have solid writing and verbal communication skills and general familiarity with Windows operating system and common software, such as Microsoft Office suite and Adobe Pro.

Basic Qualifications:

+ 8 years of professional experience

+ Associate’s degree or higher preferred.

+ Valid driver’s license required

+ Preferred experience doing surveillance or compliance

Compensation for roles at Staffing Solutions Organization LLC (SSO) varies depending on a wide array of factors including, but not limited to, the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. As required by applicable law, SSO provides a reasonable range of compensation for this role. In addition, SSO provides a range of benefits for this role.

Applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. This position is not eligible for work authorization sponsorship including H-1B sponsorship) by SSO. Under the federal laws relating to the F-1 STEM EAD program, SSO may be able to support a STEM EAD extension application at the sole discretion of your Designated School Official. This does not guarantee that any STEM EAD extension application will be approved.
