Position Purpose:
Provides expert technical support for the assigned service lines by ensuring all regular and special-order equipment and instruments are operable, available the day of surgery, and are properly billed. Acts as the primary interface and liaison for Supply Chain initiatives to get equipment, materials, instruments and disposables introduced to Surgeons and OR staff. Surveys OR environment for opportunities to consolidate or convert items to more cost effective and clinically equivalent supplies, equipment and disposables. Responsible for educating staff on new service line equipment and is a resource for ongoing education/ troubleshooting.
Minimum Qualifications:
+ High school diploma required. Successful completion of a Surgical Technologist training program and Certified as a Surgical Technologist (CST) required, Associates degree preferred. RNs with highly specialized equipment/instrument knowledge will be considered.
+ Must currently be a CST IV, Specialized CST or higher as per organizational CST ladder.
+ Extensive/expert Surgical procedural/ equipment knowledge, Supply Chain and logistics experience required.
+ Experience with preparing, comparison and/or checking of reports, records and related data to effectively analyze products and their effectiveness.
+ Preference card updates and maintenance experience required.
What You Will Do:
+ Acts as the primary interface and coordinates with Supply Chain initiatives to get equipment, materials, instruments and disposables introduced to Surgeons and OR staff.
+ Surveys OR environment for opportunities to consolidate or convert items to more cost effective and clinically equivalent supplies, equipment and disposable.
+ Assists in material usage evaluation; outdates non-moving inventory, identifies duplicate supply items, and looks for potential opportunities for cost and inventory reduction.
+ Coordinate activities between Sterile Processing, Operating Room and Supply Chain. Serves as a member of regional Value Analysis committee.
+ Actively contributes to OR staff development by conducting training in-services for new and existing equipment, instrumentation, and materials.
+ Ensures proper distribution and management of materials. Aides in developing and maintaining inventory par levels, review stock usage, and process special orders as directed.
+ Assists with setup and operation and troubleshooting of OR equipment and instrumentation.
+ Ensures that the total value of a product is analyzed, reviewed, and presented when making product selections.
+ Supports and initiates efforts to identify products that are not on contract, under the Trinity Health Supply Chain or Group Purchasing Organization. Makes recommendations based off of utilization and total value of the product to Trinity Health Supply Chain director and SAHS Surgical Services Director.
+ Identifies and communicates opportunities for product standardization and increased or equivalent product quality for improved patient outcomes.
+ Acts as primary interface for vendor representatives in the OR environment.
+ Evaluates vendor performance and access to OR areas and reports to Supply Chain and Manager any disruptive, unsafe or other behavior that violates Trinity Health and SAHS Vendor Code of Conduct.
+ Assists management in the training of department personnel.
+ Organizes and plans for scheduled cases and is accountable for ensuring necessary/specialized equipment is present for case.
+ Obtains and processes all special schedule requests. Routinely reviews all future schedules assuring that all special requests have been fulfilled and are present for scheduled procedure.
+ Provides preference card development, updates and maintenance for Surgeons.
+ Researches requests for new and special-order equipment, materials, and instruments. Assists with the trial and evaluation of these products for the assigned service line.
+ Scrubs in on cases as needed to maintain clinical skills and train new staff.
+ Researches root cause of problems and safety issues as identified and recommends solutions leadership team.
+ Participates and represents Saint Alphonsus in Trinity Health sourcing activities as assigned.
+ Aides in financial analysis including cost impact of product conversions, utilization, and standardization as assigned.
+ Works with physicians and vendor reps to ensure products used are approved, on contract and available for appropriate case.
+ Advises nursing staff on function and availability of equipment and supplies needed for case.
+ Maintains expert level of knowledge in all materials systems and updates department on upcoming changes, upgrades, etc. and their impact.
+ Issues request for Purchase Orders for new equipment and supplies.
+ Initiates equipment repairs and loaner requests as needed.
+ Participates in PEER review and clinical ladder development/maintenance for CSTs.
