    Technical Specialist, Digital Key

     

    **Hybrid:** This position does not require an employee to be on-site full-time to perform most effectively. This position requires an employee to be on-site approximately 3 times per week.

     

    The Role

     

    The Vehicle Mechatronic Embedded Controls (VMEC) delivers customer-facing features using a disciplined approach to layered software architecture. The successful candidate is a recognized automotive technical expert who will lead the design, development, testing and implementation of embedded software in the Digital Key domain.

     

    The successful candidate will embody GM's core values and behaviors, champion change, bring strategic focus to systemic issues, demonstrate learning agility, deal with ambiguity, and push the envelope without accepting the status quo. We’re seeking a highly motivated individual with negotiation skills critical to gain cross-functional alignment with key leaders in multi-disciplinary teams. This person would also lead & shape both engineering and strategic workstreams with cross functional stakeholders including mobile team, back-office team, phone partners, test team, et al. Additionally, the Technical Specialist wears many hats possessing a demonstrated ability to develop, coach and mentor team members, provide technical leadership in the Digital Key domain and be able to lead technical decisions with our Tier 1 supplier.

     

    _What you will do_

     

    + Influence, collaborate and build relationships with cross-functional teams to develop and execute the Digital Key roadmap

    + Engage with the Program, Product, Systems and Engineering teams to release robust Digital Key functionality across the GM portfolio on time and with high quality

    + Provide technical leadership & vision; generate technical innovations

    + Cultivate a collaborative and high-performing environment across organizational barriers, within GM and with suppliers

    + Provide input & guidance as it relates to work priorities for the immediate GM/supplier engineering team

    + Develop software designs that interact safely and efficiently in a complex environment; analyze and peer review software solutions

    + Plan and negotiate software release schedule and content

    + Support agile principles and practices, identifying and eliminating impediments

    + Champion early adoption of new tools and processes

    + Develop, coach and mentor team members

     

    _Required Skills and Experience_

     

    + Bachelor’s degree in Engineering

    + 4+ years of Digital Key experience

    + 8+ years of embedded software development experience in automotive industry

    + Strong knowledge of programming languages such as C, C++, Python

    + In-depth knowledge of requirements engineering process (FMEA, Preliminary Hazard Analyses, Model Based System Engineering)

    + Experience with automotive software standards, test methods/procedures and build processes (test-driven development and behavior-driven development (TDD and BDD))

    + Experience with software configuration management processes and tools (eg: GIT Ecosystem, Jira)

    + Experience with Vehicle Electrical Architecture’s standards (i.e. ISO 14229, Cybersecurity, Ethernet, CAN)

    + Development or testing experience on SIL/HIL or other virtual environments

    + Knowledge of controls theory and the software development process

    + Excellent analytical ability and demonstrated technical leadership & competency

    + Excellent leadership and interpersonal skills to work effectively in a geographically dispersed team

    + Excellent time management, oral and written communication skills

    + Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects autonomously and with high accountability for results

    + Experience with Lean/Agile principles

     

    _Preferred Skills and Experience_

     

    + Current or previous work experience at General Motors, automotive supplier

    + Master’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Math, or Physics.

    + Experience with vehicle development process and program execution milestones & deliverables

    + Experience with vehicle electrical systems, cybersecurity (secure messaging, secure boot, secure debugging)

    + Experience with relevant tools (e.g.: Matlab, Simulink, Vector, Intrepid, Rhapsody, Gears, Doors, ADO, RTC, etc.)
