    Job Title: Solar Project Engineer

     

    Department: Renewable Energy / Construction

     

    Reports To: Project Manager or Director of Solar Operations

    Position Summary

    We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Solar Project Engineer to independently manage solar construction projects from pre-construction through closeout. This role is critical to ensuring project success by overseeing financial performance, safety, scheduling, and stakeholder engagement. The ideal candidate will bring strong technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a passion for renewable energy.

    Key Responsibilities

    + Project Management: Lead solar construction projects of varying size and complexity, ensuring adherence to scope, schedule, and budget

    + Financial Oversight: Manage all financial aspects of assigned projects, including budget tracking, forecasting, and implementing cost mitigation strategies

    + Client & Subcontractor Relations: Serve as the primary point of contact for clients and subcontractors, resolving issues and maintaining strong relationships

    + Scheduling & Planning: Develop and maintain baseline project schedules; analyze actual progress versus planned timelines to identify delays and impacts

    + Field Productivity: Monitor labor performance and productivity, comparing actuals to estimates to protect project margins

    + Safety Leadership: Champion jobsite safety by conducting weekly audits, leading incident investigations, and promoting a proactive safety culture

    + Documentation & Claims: Identify project delays and impacts, prepare timely notifications and detailed documentation for claims in accordance with contract requirements

    + Problem Solving: Investigate root causes of issues, develop actionable solutions, and ensure successful implementation

    + Technical Communication: Provide conceptual and visual information to support project planning and stakeholder understanding

    + Travel: Travel overnight 3–4 days per week throughout the Midwest to support field operations and project execution

    Required Qualifications

    + Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field — or a minimum of 2 years of project engineering experience

    + Proven experience managing solar construction projects from pre-construction through closeout

    + Strong proficiency in project scheduling, budget management, and financial reporting

    + Familiarity with BIM tools, RFIs, change orders, and construction documentation

    + Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to lead meetings and coordinate across teams

    Preferred Skills & Attributes

    + Experience with design coordination and technical drawing review

    + Advanced knowledge of project communication plans and stakeholder engagement strategies

    + Strong analytical skills and attention to detail

    + Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, field-oriented environment

    Work Environment

    This role involves a mix of office and field work, with regular overnight travel (3–4 days/week) throughout the Midwest. Candidates must be comfortable working in dynamic construction environments and collaborating with diverse teams.

    This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Waukesha, WI.

    Pay and Benefits

    The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $100000.00/hr.
