Electrical Engineer 1
We are seeking a dedicated Electrical Engineer for a position within the Test and Energization (TETC) organization of the Commissioning and Testing (TET) group in the Transmission Services (T) business line. This role involves facilitating on-site engineering and project assistance for substation construction projects across Oregon, Washington, Idaho, and Montana. You will perform testing and energization of communications and control equipment in high voltage electrical substations, radio stations, and control centers, as well as recommend modifications and additions to existing installations.
Responsibilities
+ Perform testing of substation equipment, primarily power circuit breakers, transformers, and static capacitors under the guidance of a senior commissioning engineer or technician.
+ Verify CT/PT ratio, CT polarity, transformer impedance, power factor for transformers, timing of power circuit breakers, and insulation voltage withstand tests.
+ Test Substation Control equipment including Protective Relaying, SCADA, microwave radio, Transfer Trip, and PLC’s with instructions and guidance from the BPA lead engineer.
+ Support the design, implementation, maintenance, and improvement of electrical instruments, equipment, facilities, components, products, and systems by checking rack wiring and cables.
+ Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software to perform engineering tasks under the direction of a BPA Lead Engineer.
+ Gather information for the BPA Lead Engineer to create electrical drawings, reports, and calculations to support engineering solutions for electrical systems.
+ Assist in coordinating construction, installation, maintenance, support, documentation, or testing activities to maintain compliance with specifications, codes, and customer requirements.
+ Perform detailed calculations to establish construction and installation standards and specifications.
+ Inspect completed installations and verify operations to maintain conformance to design and equipment specifications and compliance with operational and safety standards.
+ Troubleshoot and provide on-site technical support to craft/customer personnel in the field.
+ Collaborate with design staff during the engineering phase to understand design philosophy and provide field information/valid requirements.
+ Facilitate projects on site, including requesting outages and verifying that materials arrive on site, with oversight and guidance from the BPA manager/BPA lead engineer.
Essential Skills
+ Bachelor’s Degree from an ABET accredited college/university in electrical engineering or a closely related field.
+ 3 months of Electrical Engineering experience in design or analysis, which may include college or charitable/voluntary engineering projects.
+ Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite including MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience using PLS-CADD, Bentley ProjectWise, and MS SharePoint is preferred.
+ Experience at an electric transmission utility with the use of PLS-CADD to analyze or design transmission lines is desirable.
Work Environment
Extensive travel up to 100% to substations across BPA’s service territory is required, with project durations ranging from 2 weeks to 2 years.

This is a Contract position based out of Vancouver, WA.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $39.00 - $40.00/hr.
