The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC Shared Services has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Research Associate 1 to work at the UHealth campus in Miami, Florida.
CORE JOB SUMMARY
The Research Associate 1, SOM supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.
CORE JOB FUNCTIONS
Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures. Participates in the publication of significant results. Maintains an overview of relevant research findings. Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice. Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research. Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures. Operates and maintains laboratory equipment. Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies. Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results. Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field required

Department Specific Functions
+ Responsible for reading and understanding the study protocol and SOPs for procedures for the acquisition, processing, storage, accountability, shipping, and documentation of biological specimens for each study protocol prior to conducting any procedures.
+ Responsible for properly preparing and cross-checking the study trays and tubes in advance of a clinical study. Also responsible for proper tray preparation, processing, sample accountability, storage and shipping of samples.
+ Responsible for accurate accountability records and storage of the specimens in a manner such that all specimens are easily retrievable.
+ Ensures all Laboratory source documents are completed accurately.
+ Responsible for meeting GCP, ICH and government regulations concerning Laboratory operations.
+ Responsible for monitoring the temperature and function of all freezers and other laboratory equipment. Also responsible for the moving of samples in the event of a freezer malfunction or power outage. Reports such temperature excursions to the PI and the Manager immediately.
+ Makes periodic checks to ensure proper conduct of Laboratory operations on an ongoing basis. Will work in close collaboration with other coordinators to ensure proper cross-checking of Laboratory procedures.
