Job Summary & General Information
The Community Agriculture & Sustainability Volunteer Coordinator works in collaboration with the Education and Volunteer Supervisor to coordinate and facilitate all volunteer activities for the Community Agriculture & Sustainability Division throughout the City of Alpharetta.
This position is temporary part-time.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
The Volunteer Coordinator will:
+ Facilitate 4-5 volunteer days per week at Old Rucker Farm, 12 months of the year, during set times of the day, working alongside the volunteers. The days and times may change with the season to accommodate temperatures and sunlight.
+ Facilitate and host private volunteer workdays for groups of 10+ people. Collaborate with the Education and Volunteer Supervisor on scheduling and coordination; collaborate with farm team on projects and tasks available each week, tools, and supplies needed.
+ Lead volunteer workdays for student clubs from local schools in environmental and agriculture-related projects through after-school or weekend programming. Coordinate with Education and Volunteer Supervisor to ensure all participants are signed up in Point and have completed all necessary documentation before arriving at workday.
+ Support the Volunteer and Education Supervisor with Grow-A-Row program, plant delivery, harvest delivery, and other tasks as needed.
+ Coordinate with farm team to facilitate large workday events (MLK Day of Service, Farm
+ workdays, Harvest Picnic, etc.) at the Old Rucker Farm or other city parks as scheduled, assisting with day-of facilitation, tool and equipment organizing, signage needs, etc.
+ Keep the Community Agriculture & Sustainability team informed of volunteer schedules on a weekly basis, adding them to team calendars, including the program volunteers, groups, and general volunteers.
+ Coordinate with the Community Agriculture & Sustainability team regarding the production field planting schedule (TEND), availability of seeds, tools, and other necessary materials needed to carry out volunteer projects;
+ Assist with field and park maintenance and production support, which may include seeding, transplanting, weeding, harvesting, and other tasks as needed.
Minimum Qualifications
• At least 2-3 years of volunteer coordination experience, with outdoor group management experience preferred.
• Knowledge and skills in small-scale organic food production.
• Knowledge and skills in small construction tool use and basic building skills.
• Knowledge of or interest in topics including urban agriculture, botany, horticulture, environmental science, health and nutrition, food systems, food access and food security.
• Demonstrated ability to work with diverse populations including youth and adults.
• Strong oral and written communication skills, including public speaking skills.
• Ability to work independently and be flexible.
• Computer skills and project management skills.
• Occasionally lifts and carries objects up to 50 pounds.
• Occasionally reaches and grasps with arms and hands.
• Ability to work outdoors with exposure to sun during planting seasons, and in warm and cold weather.
