We’re looking for a **Senior Motion Designer** with a foundation in UX, product storytelling, and visual systems to join the Windows Direction team. This is a multidisciplinary role for a design generalist who brings motion fluency and editorial clarity to complex product narratives.
You’ll help shape motion-driven experiences that resonate with millions of users—crafting vibe-coded demos, prototypes, and videos that articulate the why, what, and how of new features. You’ll collaborate across disciplines to surface value, clarify messaging, and amplify product experiences. You thrive in ambiguity, iterate quickly, and communicate with precision—distilling feedback into forward motion.

Responsibilities
+ Narrative & Storytelling: You will bring a gift for translating complex product concepts into emotionally engaging motion and visual narratives
+ helping partners and users understand the why and how of new features through clear, resonant storytelling.
+ Collaboration & Product Fluency: You will stay close to product teams, pulling assets, crafting flows, and shaping stories that demonstrate usability and value
+ bringing clarity to what’s being built and why it matters.
+ Craft & Design Excellence: You bring deep experience in shaping great user experiences
+ and you advocate for design excellence and user-centered thinking. You’re able to identify opportunities to elevate flow, emotional clarity, and product resonance through thoughtful improvements and intentional craft.
+ User Insight Integration & Vision Alignment: You will work with UXR to make the user perspective part of the product development process
+ ensuring insights are digestible for product teams, inform feature vision, and are reflected in validation, readiness, and messaging.
+ Motion Design & Editorial Clarity: You will create product tour videos and vibe
+ coded prototypes that communicate what Windows is working on
+ clarifying value and aligning internal storytelling with user experience.
+ Brand Alignment & Visual Storytelling: You will support marketing teams by crafting flows, demos, and assets that align messaging with product intent and upcoming Windows updates
+ ensuring coherence across touchpoints.
+ Curiosity & Emerging Technology Fluency: You will bring curiosity and self-direction to exploring how AI can improve workflows and enrich user lives
+ staying tuned to new tools, announcements, and advancements, and learning from them.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
+ Master's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 4+ years experience working in product or service design
+ OR Bachelor's Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, Human Computer Interaction, User Experience, Interaction Design, or related field AND 5+ years experience working in product or service design
+ OR equivalent experience.
+ 5+ years of experience using Figma and Adobe Creative Cloud, specifically Adobe After Effects and Premiere with a portfolio showcasing end-to-end design process and finished assets for both vision and shipped products.
+ 1+ years of experience applying generative AI (including LLMs and agent-based systems) to your creative workflow aiding on script.
**Other Requirements** :
+ Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:
+ Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications:
+ Proven ability to script, storyboard interactions, edit videos, and create animatics using tools such as Adobe Premiere, DaVinci Resolve, or similar.
+ Experience animating fluid UI that reflects product truth and rendering conceptual/abstract UI narratives for sizzles using Adobe After Effects.
+ Skills in reviewing product team content, using Figma, gathering assets, and creating scenarios and visuals for videos, animations, and prototypes.
+ Ability to bring ideas to life through vibe-coded demos using tools like Visual Studio Code, Cursor, or similar.
+ Conceptual Thinking & Visual Design skills.
+ Solid ability to simplify complex ideas visually, with the design skills to art direct and create polished, emotionally resonant visuals.
+ Proven experience in crafting thoughtful, user-centered experiences. Ability to design visual, interaction, and product patterns that are inclusive, forward-looking, and grounded in core UX principles.
+ Effective collaboration and communication skills across multidisciplinary teams.
+ Ability to work across disciplines, including Design, Product Management, Marketing, and Research.
+ Skills in creating 3D assets and animations using tools such as Cinema 4D, Blender, or similar.
+ Experience building scripts, plugins, or tools to extend workflows and accelerate prototyping.
+ Proven ability to thrive in fast-paced, 0–1 startup or incubation environments.
+ Demonstrated experience framing new opportunity spaces, shaping strategy, and influencing product roadmaps through early explorations.
Product Design IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
