Microsoft Purview team is responsible for a broad suite of data governance, data security, compliance, privacy, and risk management solutions across Microsoft 365, Azure, and multi-cloud environments.

We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer, Full Stack for the Purview team, to help ensure the software, tools, and code meets the highest standards for security. This opportunity will allow you to learn about customer scaling requirements and the application of best practices for meeting scaling needs and performance expectations, while ensuring the correct processes are followed to achieve a high degree of security, privacy, safety, and accessibility. You will look for opportunities to raise the security bar as you apply Microsoft’s security policies and best practices.

Responsibilities

+ Leads and owns the architecture of products and solutions by creating proposals, testing design hypotheses, and developing complex design specifications. Explores and evaluates multiple design options for complex scenarios, outlining strengths and weaknesses of each. Independently collaborates with architects to build and refine complex products and solutions, providing feedback and guidance as needed.

+ Identifies and integrates dependencies into design documentsfor a product, application, service or platform. Leverages other teams and technologies while understanding upstream and downstream interactions. Ensures security, compliance, performance, and reliability across the stack. Collaborates to resolve overlapping validation concerns and conflicts around dependency ownership.

+ Leads by example to deliver secure, performant, and maintainable code aligned with design specs. Continuously improves quality, testability, and cost-effectiveness using best practices and modern tools (e.g., GenAI). Applies metrics for stability, addresses blockers proactively, and communicates impacts and solutions.

+ Reviews product and test code against team standards to ensure appropriate coverage and fit for the solution area. Brings coaching insights to code reviews, conducted promptly to accelerate delivery. Evaluates diagnosability, reliability, testability, and maintainability; checks for patterns, security, compliance, and best practices; and uses automated analysis tools integrated into the build process.

+ Serves as designated responsible individual (DRI) , guiding engineers and following playbooks while monitoring systems for issues. Responds within service level agreement (SLA), alerts stakeholders, and restores service for simple and complex problems. Works to reduce incident volume through global analysis, provides broad resolutions, and escalates issues when needed.

Qualifications

Required/minimum qualifications

+ Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

+ OR equivalent experience.

+ 3+ years of experience in software engineering practices, coding and solid foundation in data structures and algorithms, with problem solving, debugging and analytical skills.

+ 3+ years of experience designing, developing, or maintaining secure software systems, with applied knowledge of authentication, data protection, access control, and secure coding practices

+ 2+ years experience in design and implementation of large-scale cloud services.

Other Requirements

Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements are required for this role. These requirements include, but are not limited to the following specialized security screenings:

+ Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

Additional or preferred qualifications

+ Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 6+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python

+ OR equivalent experience.

+ 3+ years of experience designing, building, and operating scalable, highly available cloud services or distributed systems on platforms such as Azure, AWS, GCP, or comparable cloud environments, with production ownership and CI/CD pipeline integration.

+ 3+ years of experience building systems with emphasis on reliability, durability, and operational efficiency, including experience with live site operations, incident response, and performance optimization.

+ 3+ years of experience designing, developing, or maintaining secure software systems, with applied knowledge of authentication, data protection, access control, and secure coding practices

+ 1+ years of experience designing and operating scalable ML infrastructure and pipelines using tools such as Azure ML, Kubernetes, or equivalent, with hands-on implementation of observability, model versioning, and secure deployment practices.

+ Experience working on large scale enterprises(multi-tenant) software

Software Engineering IC4 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $119,800 - $234,700 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $158,400 - $258,000 per year.
