DESCRIPTION OF WORK
In this position, you will be responsible for supervising the activities of a staff of actuaries and technical personnel, actuarial and valuation testing, and the preparation of comprehensive and analytical summaries, interpretations, and reports. This includes determining the day-to-day management of job responsibilities, training staff, and performing a full range of supervisory duties. You will also research and interpret laws, regulations, legal decisions, and other documents, as well as draft or assist in drafting regulations, guidelines, and future standards relating to life, accident, and health insurance rates and the rate review process. Special projects are completed as assigned.
We will rely on you to effectively guide your team in predicting and verifying losses, expenses, and economic reserves related to proposed life, accident, and health insurance rates or rating plans with a high degree of accuracy, and to ensure operations conform with statutory requirements and department guidelines. This work is essential for supporting our mission to protect Pennsylvania’s insurance consumers through fair and effective regulation of the marketplace. Work Schedule and Additional Information:
+ Full-time employment
+ Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 60-minute lunch.
+ Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time, up to three days per week. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Harrisburg. The ability to telework is subject to change at any time. Additional details may be provided during the interview.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:
+ Two years of experience as a Life and Health Insurance Actuary 2 (Commonwealth job title or equivalent Federal Government job title, as determined by the Office of Administration);or
+ Six years of life, accident, or health insurance actuarial experience, and a bachelor's degree with major coursework in mathematics or statistics;or
+ Designation as a Fellow of the Society of Actuaries, and two years of experience in life, accident, or health insurance actuarial work;or
+ Designation as an Associate of the Society of Actuaries and three years of life, accident or health actuarial work;or
+ An equivalent combination of experience and training.
