The Suites at Algiers Point is seeking an enthusiastic and creative Activities Director to lead a dynamic calendar of events that enriches the lives of our residents and strengthens our community culture. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Demonstrates Competency in the Following Areas: * Conducts daily activity program including group, individual/spontaneous, 1:1 and normalization activities as directed by Memory Care Director/Executive Director and per calendar and individual plans and with the intent to optimize the function, safety, health and emotional well-being of each resident. * Utilizes documentation such as care plans, activity protocols, and other appropriate sources of information to facilitate each resident’s best ability to function in meaningful life activities. * Assist in maintaining all resident activity records to remain in compliance with the community policies and applicable state regulations. * Monitors activity supplies and assists in the ordering of supplies. * Participates in resident activity assessments and care plan development * Act as a catalyst in developing friendships between residents and in promoting the social model. * Prepares and maintains activity documentation * Serves meals to residents according to established practice and community procedures * Maintains a clean and odor-free environment for the residents * Maintains a clutter-free environment for the residents * Assists with special events including family parties, support groups, and outtings. * Plan, coordinate, and help implement decorating of the community for special events, seasons, and holidays. * Maintains and reflects a positive attitude towards the residents and the community, including co-workers relationships. * Greets visitors with a positive attitude and a smile. * Treats residents, family, and staff with dignity and respect. * Answers telephone promptly, accurately, and according to protocol. * Supports and maintains a culture of safety and quality. Reports all accidents and incidents immediately to supervisor. * Performs other duties as requested * Assist with preparing monthly community activity calendar * Functions as a resident advocate by protecting the resident’s rights. Maintains resident’s confidentiality * Demonstrates creativity in solving problems and looking at situations in new and innovative ways. * Interacts with residents, families, co-workers, managers and other departmental staff in a kind, knowledgeable and friendly manner. * Consistently involves resident and family in planning of activities * Demonstrates ability to remain calm in emergency and/or stressful situations and gives everyone a feeling of confidence that the situation is under control. * Consistently follows the policies and procedures of the facility. * Exhibits genuine interest in and appreciation of adults in later years of life. * Is a motivated, independent individual who can organize workload so that all functions are completed appropriately. Professional Requirements: * Adheres to dress code, appearance is neat and clean. * Completes annual education requirements. * Maintains regulatory requirements. * Maintains resident confidentiality at all times. * Reports to work on time and as scheduled, completes work within designated time. * Wears identification while on duty, uses computerized punch time system correctly. * Completes inservices and returns in a timely fashion. * Attends annual review and department inservices, as scheduled. * Attends monthly staff meetings. * Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner. * Actively participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement (CQI) activities. * Complies with all organizational policies regarding ethical business practices. * Communicates the mission, ethics and goals of the community. Regulatory Requirements: * Must be 18 years of age or older * Relevant activity experience * Current CPR certification * Current certification in 1st Aid (Basic knowledge of procedures and techniques involved in administering basic first aid and resident care QUALIFICATIONS: * High School education preferred * Previous experience with geriatric clients preferred as well as the desire to work with seniors with memory impairment in a social model of care * Patience, tact, enthusiasm and positive attitude toward the elderly * Good physical and mental health neat, clean, well groomed and responsible * Must be ambulatory and in sound physical condition, be able to lift up to 50 lbs., bend to the floor, reach above head, sit, and perform repetitive movements with arms and legs. * Must be able to squat, reach, and stretch without distress. Must be able to tolerate extended periods of walking and standing * Must have working knowledge of; Microsoft, Copier, Scanner, and Shredder * CNA (not required) * Special Dementia Training preferred Language Skills: * Able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing. * Additional languages preferred.
