    DESCRIPTION:

    Under general supervision, prepares lesson plans and teaches classroom instruction for credit courses in the Opticianry program. Instruction will include both lecture and laboratory activities and may involve Internet courses. Additional duties include advising and mentoring students; textbook selection; updating curriculum; and developing instructional materials. The instructor must possess the ability to teach all phases of the Opticianry curricula. The successful candidate may also be required to teach other health related courses and will report to the Dean of Allied Health and the Division Chair of Allied Health.

     

    To meet the needs of our students, the instructor may be required to teach courses during the day, evening, and weekend hours.

    ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

    + Develops program materials and syllabi, including goals and learning objectives.

    + Evaluates students’ progress toward achieving established goals and objectives.

    + Requests and maintains necessary supplies, materials, and equipment.

    + Maintains program certification and accreditation requirements, as applicable.

    + Prepares and maintains all required documentation, records, and administrative reports.

    + Participates in staff development training, workshops, seminars, and conferences.

    + Ensures compliance with safety and security standards within the training environment.

    + Meets with students, staff, and fellow educators to discuss instructional programs and address student needs.

    + Supports recruitment, retention, and job placement initiatives.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

    A Bachelor’s degree from a nationally or regionally accredited college or university with completed courses comparable with the curriculum taught or experience/expertise in curriculum taught. Faculty must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the courses assigned.

    + Have at least 3 years' experience in the field of Ophthalmic Optics

    + Possess current ABO certification

    + Possess current NCLE certification

    + Georgia Licensure

    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

    A Master’s degree is preferred. Five or more years, within the last seven of in-field work experience in opticianry, opticianry education, or a related healthcare field. Experience must include the competencies, skills and knowledge levels the instructor will be expected to teach. Must demonstrate excellent written and oral communications and people skills. Experience in teaching/advising/mentoring college-level students with broad, diverse backgrounds is desired. Knowledge of Blackboard is desirable.

    To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.

     

    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret professional journals, technical materials, and/or governmental regulations; ability to write reports, business correspondence, and instructional materials; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from students, managers, and the general public; ability to perform basic numeric calculations; ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of both concrete and abstract ideas.

     

    Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License; maintain automobile insurance coverage; and have access to an automobile due to possible travel to other campuses.

     

    Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and listen. The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, sit, and use hands to operate instructional equipment and computers. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 30 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus.

     

    Work Environment : While performing the duties of this position, the employee will travel by automobile and be exposed to changing weather conditions. The employee may be required to drive to various instructional facilities.

     

    Minimum qualifications for this position will be determined by the teaching discipline and compliance with appropriate accrediting bodies. Faculty must be credentialed to satisfy all appropriate accrediting bodies for the course assigned
