The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications is seeking an instructor to teach JNL 500.1 ST: Visual Verification in Media. This is a hybrid class meeting online and in-person. The class will meet online on February 20, 27, March 6, 20, and 27, 2026, and conclude with in-person sessions in New York City on April 2–3, 2026 during the Spring 2026 semester. (1 credit)

Course Description:This course will introduce students to the field of open-source investigations with a focus on social media news-gathering and visual verification. Students will learn how to use social media platforms to gather and verify information, how to analyze and verify photos and videos from social media, and how to build visual investigations. Students will learn about the ethical and practical considerations involved in open-source investigations.
