    Job Description

The Office of University Communications (OUC) at Boston College is seeking a highly skilled photographer to join our in-house team, which is responsible for all top-level news and marketing efforts for the University. This position reports to OUC's director of photography and provides support for the office’s news, marketing, design/brand management, web, and magazine teams.

The photographer (senior) is responsible for executing and processing a wide range of photo assignments—including portrait, environmental, event, and conceptual—as required, all of which will convey Boston College's brand and messaging across digital and print media, including our website, alumni magazine, faculty-staff newspaper, online news site, social media, and marketing materials for the University itself and its nine schools and colleges.

The ideal candidate is technically proficient, has a strong artistic eye, and can collaborate effectively with both office teams and campus partners. In addition, the senior photographer will aid in continuing the development, maintenance, and use of the OUC digital photo database, and provide quality control (optimization) for all photographs used.

    Key responsibilities

    • Produce high-quality visual content for multiple platforms. Content must align with brand guidelines, key messages, and project goals.

    • Provide program and event coverage, portraits, and campus imagery, generally within a short turnaround period.

    • Collaborate with marketing, design, and editorial teams on creative concepts and project requirements.

    • Manage all aspects of a shoot, including scouting locations and directing subjects where required.

    • Assist the director of photography with specific photo assignments or projects as required.

    • Edit photos using professional software, including those by freelancers or other externally provided images, for quality assurance and to meet specific needs.

    • Maintain our digital image database to ensure photographic assets are appropriately categorized, tagged, archived, and accessible.

    • Assemble and supply photographs from the digital image database upon request.

    • Ensure all visual content adheres to brand and ethical standards.

Title and salary commensurate with relevant experience based on the following titles and full-time equivalent hiring ranges:

    - Senior Photographer: $65,550 - $81,950; 5+ years related professional experience

    - Photographer: $59,400 - $74,250; 1-5 years experience

    Requirements

    Required skills and qualifications:

    • Advanced proficiency with photo editing and processing software.

    • A creative eye for composition, lighting, and visual messaging.

    • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively and to deal diplomatically with project managers, senior leaders, campus partners, and photography subjects.

    • Superior organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage/balance simultaneous projects and meet deadlines.

    • Ability to adapt swiftly to new situations, environments, and creative challenges.

    • Availability for some evening and weekend work, and for travel to local shoot locations, as required.
