    Purpose of Classification

     

    Innovatively plans, organizes and supervises all aspects of assigned athletic activities, programs, leagues, assigned event and functions including; detailed preparation, marketing, sponsorships, donations and supervision to efficiently coordinate recreation operations within the City. Employee is responsible for ordering equipment and supplies, maintaining the appearance and safety of assigned fields and surrounding areas, and facilities. The position also requires the employee to work both inside and outside environments and in extreme temperatures, and noises.

    Essential Functions

    The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

     

    + Plans, organizes, supervises and promotes recreational and athletic activities for various groups including such programs as football, basketball, baseball, soccer, and other activities.

    + Arranges schedules, locations, and personnel to staff activities, oversees games and field maintenance to ensure playable conditions prior to activities.

    + Position reports directly to the Recreation Superintendent.

    + Schedules times and secures locations for practices, games, and tournaments.

    + Oversees registration for various activities, collects fees and completes proper forms, make daily deposits, secures team sponsors, maintains various team rosters.

    + Monitors and oversees payments made via the Departments Rectrac system.

    + Communicates with Parks Division to ensure the readiness of fields per each outside activity.

    + Communicates with the Facilities Division to ensure proper maintenance of restrooms and buildings.

    + Plans, promotes, and conducts various athletic tournaments.

    + Assist with other departmental programs and activities as needed.

    + Evaluates each activity to determine its effectiveness and community acceptance.

    + Represents the Department as a liaison with public, private and other agencies.

    + Orders equipment needed for activities, programs, and events.

    + Maintains documentation and records for games officials, staff and volunteers.

    + Recruits volunteers to assist with programming.

    + Prepares departmental budget for athletics, develops and maintains rosters of participants in various athletic and recreation programs.

    + Develops programs, events and activities for the public that meets the social, recreation and inclusive needs of the community to promote an equality level of service.

    + Maintains accurate records of daily inspections and maintenance as required.

    + Prepares agreements, contracts and administrative task according to policy, process and procedure.

    + Identifies and assists with financial support through the securing of grants and sponsorships.

    + Promotes interest and provides information to schools to promote program opportunities.

    + Responsible for emergency response per Department policy.

    + Assumes the responsibilities and duties of subordinate staff, including but limited to necessary certifications and trainings.

    + Troubleshoots issues and problems as they arise for task associated with position.

    + Ability to assist with the Department’s accreditation process.

    + Communicates with Marketing to ensure public knowledge of programs via website, flyers etc.

    + Assists in the recruitment and selection of part-time, and seasonal staff.

    + Serves as a member of various employee committees, as assigned.

    + Ability to plan and implement inclusive programs for all ages.

    + Meets monthly with field users to discuss scheduling and program outcomes.

    + Must have knowledge of the Recreation Accreditation Process (CAPRA)

    Minimum Qualifications

    Bachelor's degree in Parks and Recreation Administration or related field; AND minimum of four (4) years of Administrative experience as well as experience involving sports, athletic leagues and programming. Must possess (or able to obtain within fourteen (14) days of hire) and maintain a valid Florida driver's license.

    + Ability to inventory equipment before and after each activity, event, program and tournament.

    + Ability to pay attention to details.

    + Knowledge of organizing tournaments and maintaining brackets to ensure fair outcomes.

    Ability to work prolonged days, some of which may include long periods of standing, lifting or moving supplies and equipment.

     

    Work requires climbing, balancing, stooping, standing, walking, pushing, pulling and lifting.

    Sensory Requirements

    Vocal communications is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word; hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels; visual acuity is required for depth perception, peripheral vision, preparing and analyzing written or computer data, use of measuring devices, operation of vehicles or equipment, and observing general surroundings and activities; the worker is subject to inside and outside environmental conditions, extreme heat, noise, and atmospheric conditions. The worker may also be exposed to bloodborne pathogens and may be required to wear specialized personal protective equipment.

    Ability to create a safe environment for patrons.

     

    Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions such as dirt, dust, field clay, pollen, wetness, humidity, fumes, temperatures, noises, machinery, traffic hazards, toxic agents, violence, disease or pathogenic substances.

    Vacation

    All full-time employees accrue time toward paid vacation leave. Accrual begins immediately and vacation may be taken after six months of employment.

    The City observes12 paid holidays throughout the year.

    Sick Leave / Family Sick Leave

    Full-time employees accrue one day of sick leave per month. An employee may elect to use up to 5 days per year of accrued sick time for illness in his/her immediate family.

    The Tuition Assistance Program reimburses eligible employees for successful completion of approved courses leading to Associate, Bachelor and Master degrees.
