About this Job
This vacancy is located in the Office of State Police- Crisis Response/K9 Unit and may be domiciled within any parish statewide as needed. This position may be used to fill a probational appointment or job appointment.
This position will require primarily a day shift, Monday-Friday. Nights and weekends will be worked when needed. This is a law enforcement position in which the incumbent is charged with the duties of a State Police Investigator 2 serving as a K9 handler and operations assistant for the Louisiana State Police K9 Unit. This position reports to the LSP K9 Sergeant and is responsible for working with the Force Investigation Unit on investigating K9 uses of force, working with the Bureau of Investigation on narcotics investigations, working with the Emergency Services Unit and BOI on explosives related investigations, working as an LSP K9 handler, working with LSP SWAT K9’s, assisting with K9 training and providing logistical support for all of the LSP K9 teams. The incumbent will have to attend a certified K9 Trainer’s Course, typically a minimum of twelve weeks, at an out-of-state K9 training facility.

Minimum Qualifications
Two years of experience in law enforcement, investigatory work or military intelligence work; OR
Twelve hours in law enforcement or a criminal justice field.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
Possession of a current Louisiana driver's license.
Willingness and ability to attain a Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) certification.
An applicant will be disqualified if he or she has been convicted of a felony or if there are any indictments or bills of information pending against him or her in which felony charges are included; or if he or she has been convicted within the past three years of hit and run or driving while intoxicated.

Job Duties and Other Information
As a Criminal Investigator 1/2, you will be instrumental in delivering a streamlined and engaging hiring experience for both candidates and hiring managers. In this role, you will:
+ Work with the Force Investigation Unit on the investigation of on-scene and/or post-scene analysis of LSP K9 apprehensions/Uses of Force
+ Conducting investigations in support of the mission of the Bureau of Investigation and the Emergency Services Unit concerning narcotics and explosives
+ Writing search warrants, arrest reports, and documenting K9 activities
+ Work with the LSP SWAT team on scene with K9 deployments of wanted criminals
+ Work as a K9 Handler in the field: narcotics, bomb, patrol/apprehension
+ Coordinate and instruct at monthly K9 training sessions and handler courses with all of the LSP K9 teams throughout the state
+ Fix operational problems with LSP K9s through hands-on training
+ Assist the K9 Sergeant with logistical support for the unit
