Governor works closely with the Office of the Governor to ensure the effective implementation of the Polis-Primavera Administration’s priorities. The Office of the Lt. Governor leads a broad portfolio of programs, including Aerospace and Defense, the Colorado Commission of Indian Affairs, Disability Policy, the Office of eHealth Innovation, the Office of Saving People Money on Health Care, and Serve Colorado.

    Position Title:Press and Community Engagement Coordinator

     

    Salary: $57,700-$66,000 annually

     

    FLSA Status:Exempt

     

    Summary of Functions: The Press and Community Engagement Coordinator reports to the Deputy Chief of Staff (DCOS) to the Lt. Governor. This position is responsible for coordinating all press, community and stakeholder engagement, and communications needs for the Office of the Lt. Governor and its programs. This position aids in content creation, including speeches and remarks, digital content, memos, articles, reports, op-eds and other materials; helps advance and staff external events; is a liaison between the Office of the Lt. Governor and the Governor’s Communications and Community Engagement team; and, supports the Governor's press team.

     

    Ideal candidates for this position will be exceptional writers, strategic thinkers and effective communicators who are comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and interacting with a wide range of program areas and stakeholders, including media, elected officials, cabinet members, advocates and members of the public. They will take initiative to prevent and solve problems by proposing and implementing solutions. They will also have outstanding organizational and time-management skills, the ability to carry out assignments independently and can establish and maintain effective personal relationships with peers, supervisory staff, state agencies, senior elected officials and external stakeholders. Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated ability to be flexible and adapt to a fast-paced and quickly changing work environment.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

    + Advances events for the Lt. Governor, including events open to the press;

    + In partnership with the Executive Assistant to the Lt. Governor (EA), ensures the Lt. Governor is prepared for events, including all written materials and logistics;

    + Works with the EA to track and manage all follow up actions from external events;

    + Creates briefing materials for all communications events in which the Lt. Governor participates;

    + Works with Governor’s Communications and Community Engagement team to ensure coordination and effective execution for all externally-facing events and engagements in which the Lt. Governor leads or participates;

    + Works with Program Leads within the Office of the Lt. Governor and Governor's digital director to provide content for the Lt. Governor's social media channels;

    + Prepares remarks, talking points, op-eds, memos, articles, reports, official correspondence, digital posts and other content;

    + Works with the Governor’s Communications Director and their team to execute on all communications for the Office of the Lt. Governor;

    + Works with the Lt. Governor’s Chief of Staff (COS), DCOS, and Governor’s Communications Director to develop a strategic community engagement plan for the Office of the Lt. Governor;

    + Liaises with Program Leads within the Office of the Lt. Governor to incorporate programs into all strategic plans;

    + Pursues and identifies opportunities to advance the goals of the Polis-Primavera Administration and the Office of the Lt. Governor programs;

    + Maintains the Office of the Lt. Governor external communications

    + Special projects as needed; and

    + Other duties as assigned.

    Essential Skills

    + Familiarity with Google Suite

    + Previous working experience as communications specialist

    + Exemplary written and verbal communication skills

    + Experience and knowledge in copywriting, proofreading and editing

    + Experience supporting a senior elected official or other principal

     

    Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal Rights

     

    Required: Valid Colorado driver’s license and ability to work evenings and weekends as needed.

     

    Organizational Relationships:This position reports to the Lt. Governor’s Deputy Chief of Staff and is part of the Office of the Lt. Governor. This position may supervise interns.

     

    Expected Annual Travel: In-state, as needed for official events. Potential out of state travel.

     

    Education/Experience:Three or more years of experience, ideally within a communications background. Must possess exceptional organizational and customer service skills and the ability to maintain confidential information as well as acute attention to detail. Exemplary written and oral communication skills. Demonstrated ability to interact with a broad array of partners and stakeholders, including elected officials, Cabinet officials, state agency personnel, community partners. Ideally, experience with drafting remarks for senior leaders or elected officials.

    Conditions of employment:
