Summary THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for a MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, Position Description Number R9560WID and is part of the ID Installation Support Unit, National Guard. THIS POSITION IS PERMANENT. Responsibilities Performs organizational, direct, general support level field/shop maintenance on the Target Holding Mechanism Tank Gunnery(THMTG), Armor Moving Target Carrier (AMTC), Infantry Remote Target System (IRETS), Infantry Moving Target Carrier System (IMTS), M31Al and M30, smoke and hostile fire simulators. Test, charge and install 12/24 volt batteries. Provides technical advice and assistance to lower graded employees in the performance of assigned duties. Inspects, tests, service, adjust, align, calibrate, install, repair, replace, recondition, troubleshoot, field test and/or shop test target mechanisms and hit sensor devices. Uses shop bench test mock-up to test hydraulic and electrical/electronic meters, oscilloscope, logic probe, and pressure gages. Replaces/repairs defective hardware and parts such as: relays, switches, assemblies, cables, target elevating mechanisms, hydraulic cylinders, piping, valves, pumps, junction boxes, solenoids, electric motors, rectifiers, diodes, transformers, rheostat, transistors, resistors, capacitors, thermal panels and other components. Fabricates and repairs electrical power/data cables, hit sensor cable assemblies, hard-wire control power distribution/switch devices, etc. Performs routine flatwork welding repairs to metal mechanical target mounting devices. Uses oxygen-acetylent welder to heat-treat and straighten target mounting arms, cut repair splices and to join metal surfaces to repair live-fire damage.Loads and unloads explosive Hoffman devices. Loads oxygen/propane on simulators. Following standard measurements and specifications fabricates and repairs plastic, metal, wooden and cardboard targets. Operate computer keyboard console to activate target mechanisms and to perform maintenance. Operate two-way radio equipped four wheel motor vehicles up and including 2 1/2 ton trucks to transport self, materials, and others to worksites. Performs operational checks on vehicles and fills out log books and trip tickets as required. May be required to perform range maintenance duties on other ranges. Performs other duties as assigned. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the knowledge of trade practices, tools, and related equipment used in the maintenance and repair of grounds, exterior structures, buildings, and related fixtures and utilities. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience or training in complex trade practices in the maintenance and repair of facilities and grounds. Experience which required selecting type and amount of materials needed to maintain and repair facilities. Experience using measuring equipment and various portable power tools in work which required close tolerances. Experience or training in performing visual examinations and operational tests to determine the need for, and the performance of, repair work Education There are no additional educational requirements for this position.
