Position Overview:
The SLAC Nanofabrication Facility (Nano-X), within the Stanford Synchrotron Radiation Lightsource (SSRL), a directorate of SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory, a research facility operated by Stanford University, is seeking a Senior Nanofabrication Scientist with expertise in designing, simulating, fabricating, and utilizing novel x-ray optics. An in-depth understanding of nanofabrication methods including thin film deposition (sputtering, atomic layer deposition, ebeam evaporation), characterization (FIB/SEM, AFM, ellipsometer, various microscopies), etching (various dry and wet etching technique), and patterning (optical, ion, and ebeam lithography). The senior nanofabrication scientist will be responsible for leading the development of novel nanofabrication techniques and devices for Nano-X scientific programs. Hands-on work in a clean room environment will be central parts of this job. The senior nanofabrication scientist will also be responsible for some construction and instrument installation/commissioning work related to etching and deposition instruments at Nano-X. Work will be performed jointly at Stanford University and SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory.
Note: This is a 1-year fixed term position with the possibility of extension. Assignment duration is contingent upon project needs and funding availability.
**Your specific responsibilities include** :
+ Developing novel nanofabrication techniques and devices for Nano-X scientific programs.
+ Hands-on work in a cleanroom environment.
+ Construction and instrument installation/commissioning for etching and deposition instruments at Nano-X.
To be successful in this position you will bring:
+ **Ph.D. in physics, engineering, materials sciences, chemistry, or related fields and at least 15 years of experience with nanofabrication techniques in patterning, etching, deposition and metrology.**
+ **Record of initiating and leading scientific research projects in nanofabrication.**
+ **Experience in installation and construction aspects for specialty gases.**
+ **Research/publication record commensurate with level of work experience.**
+ **Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to convey complex technical concepts.**
+ **Ability to work and communicate effectively with a diverse population.**
+ **Ability to collaborate across organizations and manage/lead cross-functional efforts.**

The expected pay range for this position is $90,000 - $165,000 per annum. SLAC National Accelerator Laboratory/Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
