Essential functions (job duties):
The Departments of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and Materials Science at Wayne State University are inviting applications for a faculty position in the broad area of microelectronics chemistry. The position will be at the Assistant Professor level although highly qualified candidates will be considered at other ranks. Candidates with research interests in thin film deposition, atomic layer deposition, and thin film metrology are of special interest. The candidate will join a dynamic and accomplished faculty dedicated to outstanding research and teaching in both Chemistry and Chemical or Materials Engineering. The expected start date is August 2026 but is negotiable.
The faculty position will be in the broad area of microelectronics chemistry. Candidates with research interests in thin film deposition, atomic layer deposition, and thin film metrology are of special interest.
Teach Chemistry and Chemical Engineering courses in both undergraduate and graduate levels.
Publish research results in leading peer-reviewed journals.
Aggressively seek external funding for support of research program.
Direct graduate students’ research and thesis work.
Assume department, college and university duties consistent with and appropriate for good faculty citizenship.
Unique duties:
The successful candidate will be expected to demonstrate the ability to establish a nationally recognized, externally funded research program or will have an internationally recognized research program. Access to state-of-the-art department facilities and collaborative prospects across the main campus, medical school, and the U.S. microelectronics industry will facilitate the candidate’s professional development in a supportive environment.
Qualifications:
Ph.D. in field of specialization or related area. Research experience that indicates ability to maintain a high profile, fundable and contemporary research program. Research publications in leading journals appropriate to the discipline.
